Thanks, Marc, that would be excellent. :)

Prepare to start dispensing with cash in a 7mm direction then David.

Marc's last micro O layout had that impact on me...and his latest one is just not helping matters... :O

Dunno what it is...but there is something nice about working on 2mmFS stuff...and then 7mm stuff.

cuts out the 'middle man' of 4mm... ;)

I have yet to convince you to model in 4mm as well..... heh heh heh...... :)

Don't think that I wasn't tempted to it after seeing your Hendre Lane...it's just I decided to leave the 4mm to my sons layouts (that way I can get to dabble a bit with that too...)

Superb! Thanks for posting those photos gwrman....

I've been pondering a simple "tuning fork" shelf layout for a while now...

See BcnPete.... somewhere to shunt your 08, your 26 and 2 or 3 wagons.....

Cheers

Hi, no problem I just hope my photos did Rob's excellent modelling justice, he really knows how to capture atmosphere in a layout.

Cheers again Nigel,

Did Rob ever get an article on either layout in print?

Or is there a thread somewhere?

Please excuse my ignorance....

.... but I'm seriously tempted to do a really small similar project,

using a cunning plan I picked up at the Bristol O gauge show....

Marc

PS Your photos certainly capture the atmosphere of that fab looking model

Just to let any interested parties know

My new O gauge layout "Poynton Sneer" now has a thread

Thanks to BCNpete for bumping the thread again,

and to everyone who commented - esp Warspite, and gwrman, for posting pics of "the shed"

Cheers

Hi Marc

I'm a great admirer of your work especially the O Gauge side. Have just joined the site as I appear to have crashed your thread without being a member and thought I should answer one of your questions. The Shed is one of mine and you queried whether it has been in print. Well no as I generally work quietly at home but have recently discovered the pleasures of exhibiting hence the photos appearing of both The Shed and Osney Town.

Thanks for your kind words rcf,

I haven't seen either of your layouts "in the flesh" but would really love to :)

You have probably gathered, I like small layout designs

I was really taken with some photos of "Osney Town" which someone posted on here

"The shed" looks even better, I must say -

it's full of atmosphere and interest, despite containing only 1 point...

My compliments to you sir!

If you have any more photos of either layout,

I'd really like to see them?

Please post them.... and don't feel you're hijacking my thread

This forum is all about sharing ideas, designs, pictures etc etc....

Keep in touch

Marc

Hi Marc

Many thanks for your kind comments. Unfortunately Osney Town is no more but should arise from the debris as Osney in the forseeable future. The Shed is still in one piece but I don't have any exhibitions at the moment. It hasn't been seen outside Cornwall but would be available if invited.

My definition of micro is probably a bit bigger than yours! The shed is 6 feet by 14 inches overall, 1 foot being fiddle yard. It is DCC operated and the locos are sound fitted which adds something extra at shows.

I will investigate photos but at the moment I haven't a clue how to download pictures to a topic!

Regards Rob

Hi again Rob,

6 feet by 14 inches is definately "Micro" in O gauge sir ;)

That's only just over a foot longer than Poynton Sneer.....

There are guides to help you upload photos,

and it's pretty easy really

Go for it Rob - I'd love to see a thread on the shed....

PS. I didn't intend the above rhyme Lol

Cheers again

Marc, can you tell me how high have you made your backscene, also what is the size of the picture frame lighting unit you have used,

Please?

Over the years I have built several layouts in most of the main scales & also N / G, most of my backscenes were either 9""

Or 12" high, with lighting pelmets high enough that you don,t hit your head on.

I have just built the layout based on your theme here, but without any points!!! I will try to post some photo,s soon, if I can find out how to!

Looking forward to your reply,Keep up the good work.

Hi Richard,

Both Clarbeston North, and Poynton Sneer use photo backscenes

For Clarbeston (this one's name now) I cut away the sky, and painted my own -

I wanted more clouds & mist....

I left the sky in place for Poynton Sneer - as it would have been much trickier to cut away neatly

Both have been given a good coat of matt acrylic varnish, to get rid of a very un-natural gloss finish.

I mounted both onto hardboard, cos it's cheap, readily available, and easy to bend, and cut...

HOWEVER, take care, as commercially available backscenes expand when wet, and shrink and cockle and even tear off,

when dry - if you're not careful!

I had a few accidents and unexpected gloomy moments when doing Clarbeston...

Firstly, I use photo spray mount, to stick the backscene onto lining paper,

Then I prime the hardboard with decorators flat white undercoat.

The backscene still has tendency to lift, or bubbles form between lining paper and hardboard!!!

I used an iron to flatten the out (a suggestion from the missus)

Next time, I think I will use "bendy MDF" as a base,

although it's heavier, it may well prove to be easier to stick the backscene to....

I know Chris Nevard has used it in the past

so I think I'll PM him with a request for advice....

Also, both my backscenes have been from different manufacturers,

and have handled differently from one another :(

If you're unsure, maybe try buying an n gauge, cheaper version, and having a play with different techniques?

I may even try using spray carpet adhesive on the next one...

The best result I had, was a very small piece of sky on "Bracty Bridge"

It was a piccie of my own, which a friend printed using a poster printer

Personally, I find them hard to use....

and wish you good luck,

let us know how you get on

Best

Marc

Edit,

Sorry GW57 - just remembered you asked about lighting too....

I use a small low-energy "strip light" from the DIY company with the orange logo!

It's an energy efficient lamp, about a 10 -12" across, and looks a little like a fish tank light,

but much cheaper. They are about £16 or £17 and although they are rated at about 11 or 12 watts

are quite bright, as are many modern energy efficient lamps.

Hope this helps

Cheers again

Marc

PS. Look forward to seeing your pics :)

Hi folks,

Just thought I'd mention here that this layout is now for sale,

to a good home - no reasonable offers refused.....

It has been called "Clarbeston North" and I only exhibited it a few times

I'm only selling it because although it is minimum space (certainly for O gauge!)

I have now got rather a lot of layouts

Plus, I'm spending more time playing about with my new min-space O gauge "Poynton Sneer"

I'm open to offers, if anyone's interested?

BTW. Andy has Okayed me to mention this in this thread

Cheers all

Go on, treat yourself to somewhere to run that nice 08 shunter you're going to buy :)

Marc

Edit: Please feel free to PM me with any questions
