scots region
Hello all, I've been building this little kit I got off ebay, working on and off for a few months now. Overall its gone well, but there is a fair amount of Flash, its come time to mount the Vacuum Cylinder, as can be seen here. I don't know If I should remove the raised centre, it looks too uniform to be an accident of molding, further... This mounting block is off centre and again I don't know whether or not I should remove that pip at the centre, but it does seem advisable. I've also built an IPengineering 'Quarrymans coach' from their EZEE range, its one of three I've put together so far, but it will have to the last for now, I've no more room. But I do recommend them, they all but fall together and have a personality of their own Left side Right side standard undergubins shot, And one more Yours ScR
Fat Controller
The Vac cylinder should be off-set slightly from the v-hangers towards one end. Looking at the photos on Paul Bartlett's site, it would appear that there two V-hangers on one side, but only one on the other; does the instruction sheet make reference to this? scots region
Yes the instruction does advise setting the brake assembly for one side and trimming off the V-hangers and vacuum bracket on the other. Were on Mr Bartlett's site might I find some photos of 12 tonners?
cheesysmith
yup, single v hanger on one side, and a cross link between the two on the other side. find attached a photo of a 13t BR steel sided open with such brake gear and a rather crude drawing. PS- bonus points if anybody can name such a brake gear still in use on the main line today?

RMweb Gold 57xx Posted May 13, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 13, 2015 2nd pic down on post #20 shows how it should be. I can't remember if I had the same vac cylinders on these kits, I seem to recall having ones with a hollow centre. I would take the pip of the end of the cylinder and drill a small hole to take the pip on the floor of the wagon.

I'm prepared to have a guess - I think there are some old rudds/clams still around that have the old LNER arrangement... ZG.
cheesysmith
Nope, IIRC the rudds/clams have gone to the razor blade factory in the sky already. Try the CDA and if they are still around the coalfish, the HAA had its handbrake the same LNER brake levers.
