Parkside Dundas LNER 12 ton open wagon and some 16MM work

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I've been building this little kit I got off ebay, working on and off for a few months now. Overall its gone well, but there is a fair amount of Flash, its come time to mount the Vacuum Cylinder, as can be seen here.

I don't know If I should remove the raised centre, it looks too uniform to be an accident of molding, further...

This mounting block is off centre and again I don't know whether or not I should remove that pip at the centre, but it does seem advisable.

I've also built an IPengineering 'Quarrymans coach' from their EZEE range, its one of three I've put together so far, but it will have to the last for now, I've no more room. But I do recommend them, they all but fall together and have a personality of their own

yup, single v hanger on one side, and a cross link between the two on the other side. find attached a photo of a 13t BR steel sided open with such brake gear and a rather crude drawing.

PS- bonus points if anybody can name such a brake gear still in use on the main line today?

2nd pic down on post #20 shows how it should be.

I can't remember if I had the same vac cylinders on these kits, I seem to recall having ones with a hollow centre. I would take the pip of the end of the cylinder and drill a small hole to take the pip on the floor of the wagon.

I'm prepared to have a guess - I think there are some old rudds/clams still around that have the old LNER arrangement...
