DAVE1562
Hi all... a little more progress, mainly getting the bridge painted and weathered, spent the afternoon highlighting the mortar and mould and then airbrushing the smoke staining.... now it can be fixed to position and landscaped in... quite pleased how its turned out

wigancg
Thanks chris...was on the train from exmouth to exeter and back on wednesday, looking out for brick bridges to give me ideas... some unusual looks from people watchin me pressed up to the window tryin to get a better look.... lol You're welcome Dave. I suppose it does look a bit strange and odd to those who take no interest in our hobby and in railways in general. However, it is no more strange to me than these 'macho' blokes who cry, swear and act in strange ways over their precious football team (as you can tell I certainly am not interested in football). To each his own which is what makes the world go round. Anyway, a lovely spot of modelling with the bridge. I have the same Wills kit too as a scenic break and have often wondered whether to add some bits of moss and the odd damp/mouldy patch in the nooks and corners. That may be a job for a future spare afternoon. Chris
DAVE1562
Hi all... put the bridge project on hold past couple of days to slightly re route the sidings....changing a point from a r/h to l/h and re position to give me longer siding lengths, this has enabled me to double magnet the lengths so now i can uncouple in 2 positions on each of the sidings....nearly there with the ballasting, all electrics/droppers are re connected, and now the landscaping to start ... i can now carry on and finish the bridge Edited April 27, 2017 by DAVE1562
DAVE1562
Hi all.. a little more progress on the bridge this week, fixed to position after applying ballast and sleeper grime to the new curve, a bit of filler for base of farm track to roughen the surface a bit and then covered in some fine beach sand, just letting it dry now so landscaping can continue... and i could not resist.....
RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted May 27, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 27, 2017 Really nice work Dave, I especially like the colours and how they all come together. I've noticed that you use cork for the visible side of the cut-through contours (sorry, not sure about the right words there). I like the effect it gives. Can I ask how you fix it in place? Hi Mikkel... its not cork, its the back of the hard foam 10 mm thick tile which supports the landform which i painted brown, these are stuck in place with uhu por glue... i just infill with newspaper and cover with modroc...it gives it a neat back or face as these are on the lifting sections and have no scenic backdrops fitted.. i also use the same against the backboards and in the middle access area to create the landform as it gives a nice shape and lip for the modroc to stick to... some pics... RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted May 28, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 28, 2017 Thanks for that Dave, very useful info. It's quite effective I think, gives the impression of a real slice of landscape - literally.
