Thanks for the comments above - I have been away on holiday and came back to 32 pages of 'View New Content' so it's taken a while to catch up . . :O.

Ah, things are looking up if you can afford a holiday ...

See you at Burton - my mate Steve is bringing me !

Ah, things are looking up if you can afford a holiday ...

We were in the towable tin box on a site near York - with Mrs B working part time at a school we are a bit restricted when we can go away and so have to pay more for the pleasure of being in a field for a few days. No narrow gauge but we did get a trip on NYMR from Pickering to Whitby (and return of course!)

Following the announcement on the front page of Narrow News, I would like to clarify the situation regarding parking in Burton for the 7mmNGA Exhibition and AGM on Saturday 13th June.

I had a letter from the Council which explained that the large office block next to the Town Hall had been sold by the Council to Burton College and was being extended into part of the car park. This meant that the usual entrance had been closed but there is still access to the car park from the side road and the Council still have 30 spaces (which will increase to 50 after the work is complete) as well as access to a further 30 spaces outside the Children's Centre at the other end of the car park (these are only available at weekends)

So the end result is that there should be 60 spaces this year and 80 when the work is complete next year although some of this will probably be taken by exhibitors and traders. Also remember that charges apply for the use of the Council car park.

Up to 2 hours - £1.00

Up to 3 hours - £1.80

Up to 4 hours - £4.40

Over 5 hours - £5.50

However roadside parking is available in many of the side streets nearby without charge but it is your responsibility to check the restrictions (although most of these only apply Monday to Friday as it's close to the Station and the limits are there to prevent commuters parking all day). Please respect our neighbours and park sensibly.

The letter from the Council recommends the use of alternative car parks near to the Station but check where you park as it all seems to be one car park but the different coloured line markings indicate who the land belongs to and how much you pay. See below a report from our local spy . . . .

Been at work today on a shift where I park in Burton.

The grain warehouse car park is indeed split into two, part being the station overflow car park and the rest attached to the grain warehouse, which used to be Council offices, but is now a Travelodge.

Down the bottom of the car park, it's not marked, but all the spaces are marked in white paint and are railway ones.

Up by the grain warehouse itself, the spaces are marked. Railway part is marked out with white lines and clearly painted 'Railway Station Parking'. These are £4 per day.

The ones attached to the Grain Warehouse are marked in yellow paint and have 'Excel Parking Bays' written by them, Excel being the parking management company. They are £3 per day but also charges per hour for those staying shorter times.

If they catch you parking in the wrong bit with the wrong ticket, you'll get a fine!

I hope that this temporary situation does not put off any of our visitors

TRADE & LAYOUTS

Attended DEMU last weekend and in talking to a number of traders and layout owners the access was very restricted from previous years, so be aware and give yourselves extra time for unloading and setting up on Saturday morning.

VISITORS

Last weekend as DEMU was on two sites many visitors used the Brewery Museumn car parking which was ideal, of course the 7mm AGM and exhibition will not have that facility.

As the station is so near the Town Hall I think the traveling by train may be a option to consider.

As Mike has pointed out there is plenty of street parking within a short walk, so just allow yourself a few more minutes extra time for parking.

Terry, while a good point as we can't get until 8.00am we are a bit stuck anyway.

Peter

Hi Peter

I trust Mike Bellemy will see this and see if there is any chance of opening before 8:00

You can only ask

Glad I exhibited Alstone Quay last year..

I'm getting worried about this - getting Grass Valley ready for 10.30 is going to be tight even if we can get in at 8am, and I would like time for some breakfast! If it slips to 8.30 or even later it's going to be a problem.  Mike, how many access doors will we have available, and how close can we get to them with the van? I don't mind taking the layout for a ride on the trolley if it's dry, but not in the pouring rain.

Put my mind at rest - please!

Peter

Peter, you are in the main hall which has two access doors at the front of the building. You will be able to set up as soon as we have marked out the floor, which should be no later than 8.00 am if not before.

Remember it's the 7mm Narrow Gauge show at Burton Town Hall on Saturday . . . .

Just been looking at the list of layouts - we have an interesting combination of scales and gauges - not bad from 15 layouts!

7mm scale 1:43 using 16.5mm track

7mm scale 1:43 using 24.5mm track

7mm scale 1:43 using 9mm track

1/4in scale 1:48 using 16.5 mm track (On30)

G scale 1:20 using 16.5mm track (Gn15)

Come and see us - I'll be with Paul Martin on EDM Models

Hello folks

Despite the loss of large chunks of the car park and the back door, we didn't find it too difficult to arrange unloading/loading at DEMU's Showcase a couple of weeks back. The doors at the "bottom" of the main hall (next to the Rangemore Bar) can be very useful for unloading/loading as well as the main entry at the front.

We didn't find the parking by the Children's Centre to be much use - it is too much of a trudge round to be really useful.

Hope it goes well.

Cheers, Mike

Do we have a updated list of traders?

Thanks for the reminder Terry, Tim advised me that he had added A1 Models (etched brass loco bodies) and James Corsi (laser cut rolling stock) and I updated the list on the Narrow Gauge NRGM Forum but not the RMweb list - now updated.

Sorry Terry - I don't know. Tim has booked all the traders and layouts and the original list is a copy of what he sent - including Avalon/Blackdog.

Blackdog Mining Co was one of Steve's trading names and he has often shared a stand with Howard - I know he has been ill although I think a posting on NGRM said that he was recovering - and Howard hasn't been in the best of health either. It may be a case of see who turns up on the day . . . . . .

I've been to Burton today with my Father-in-Law and 3 year old son.

I don't model in Narrow gauge, but I have to say that this was an excellent show and the standard of modelling on show was fantastic. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly, with two of the layouts allowing my son to have a go at driving - made his day did that, and a personal thank you to those layout owners for letting James have a play.

I couldn't say that there was a bad layout there, but 'Up the Line' and 'Cauldon Low' stood out for me, with some very fine modelling on them.

Well done to the organisers.

cheers

Andy

I managed a brief visit just before lunch time with young daughter in tow (hence only a brief stop). She was quite impressed with the little mining layout Afon Adit which had a lovely little underground cameo.

I think that Up the Line was a stand out again. This is a very impressive layout. Another one that stood out for me was Clee Valley Railway. I have never seen a layout based on a 15 inch gauge tourist line before. The model brought back memories of last year's visit to Wroxham and the Bure Valley Railway. A lovely model.

All in all a great show. Not a bad model amongst them and many of the operators were very friendly. A reasonable entry fee for non members and there was space in the small car park too which was well signposted. Congrats to the organisers.
