Missing 8 pin blank

I have just received a Bachmann Class 20 loco (second hand) and on test it doesn't work. I removed the body to discover there is no blank plug. As this loco will not be DCC, can I bridge terminals 1 and 5 without causing damage until I can source a proper blank plug? Using a circuit tester only 1 and 5 give a closed circuit across them. Alternatively I can cut the wires to the decoder base and rejoin the wires. Your advice will be much appreciated.

You need to connect 1 to 8 and 4 to 5.

I simply wired the relevant terminal together using small bits of single core wire of a size that could be pushed into the chop socket. That way the option of going for DCC in future is made a tad simpler

Good tip. Did that and it goes like a good 'un. It can stay like that until a proper blank arrives. Many thanks again to all.
