Remember last year someone posted images of old catalogues day by day . Found that hugely more entertaining that the official advent calendar . Think Hornby missed a trick there . This year seems to be all about social media . Already lost interest

So, do I see a pattern developing.

I am declaring the pattern to be proven.

Today. A draw (not a competition, and in no way a giveaway IMO) for a Santa Express Set.

You’re on target for the prize I mentioned! You may not like it though, it’s a years pre-paid 12 month subscription to Facebook. Yes, a whole year for free. But only if you “like”, “share” and “subscribe”, whatever that lot means!

We're in luck today, the competition is for three Railroad Plus locos in GBRf livery AND all you need do is supply your name and email address!

Still not sorted a week after moving, this post is being made on a tablet that is immune to encroaching advert syndrome....

I was glad after entering I didn't win - I was also expecting the prize to be the MN based on the picture not a funny liveried Class 31.

Ruffnut still on track!

Today, an Instagram opportunity for a Hitachi Class 800 experimental livery coach pack.

Don't know how many Class 800 experimental livery sets were made, but it seems like a prize more attractive to an eBay scalper...  :scratchhead:Though if anyone does have a set, chances of winning should be a bit better!

Today is a Tik Tok Tag for a chance to win a RARE "Hornby, A Model World" wagon.

ADVENTURES ON TRAINS
BOOK SERIES

It's a pity that adults didn't get the chance to receive some Edward Marston "Railway Detective" books instead!

I also have 'misgivings' about the strategy employed in this years Advent Calendar from Hornby.

I appreciate that they are a business, competing in very challenging times.  They have to promote themselves and that means 'Social Media'.  However, I am uncomfortable with the ask here.

Clearly, the pattern is to connect with as wide a market as possible by the process on 'Liking' and 'Tagging',  However, the majority of people that I know who do use social media in its various forms, would have absolutely no interest in model railways and if I start tagging them, or inundating them with anything relating to my interests......  Well, I think that their response would not be described as happy.

So, this Advent Calendar is a disappoint for me.   But not completely without hope, The only two items that have interested me, fortunately, have just required looking on Youtube and leaving comments. No social suicide required.

But can someone please tell me...   Hornby says that they will announce the winners and that winners must check-in and claim their prize.  But it is not clear to me where one checks?   Does anyone have an answer to this please?

Thank you.

A nice pair of Princess Royals today, but you still have to be logged in to YouTube to comment. And as I don't subscribe to any of Hornbys chosen social media channels, it's another competition I can't enter! Not that it matters, I've not been successful in any of the Advent Calendar competitions that Hornby have run since they started....

AFAIC it's all just a bit of seasonal fun!  :jester:

I dug deeper into the terms and found a line that said 'we will contact you by email',  so there we are.

Well I have gone for the weathered Merchant Navy and the two Princesses.  Although if they were offering the Playtrains set, I would have gone for that for my grandson.   Had to think carefully about what to say though.
