Minor landmine damage.

What is going on with the smokebox door? :notme:

Actually the model I had in the very early 70s had synchrosmoke. I left it running when a friend came round and I went outside to play. When I came back indoors my mum and dad weren't best pleased. The whole chimney had melted away, along with the firebox where the motor had got slightly too warm.

I only ever had one loco with the smoke effect, the first one, a Tri-ang Achilles class Lord of the isles. It was almost twenty years old when I had it and I think that my mother was secretly relieved that it had long since stopped working!

Was this not also the same model that had the "realistic chuffing sound" achieved by a sliver of sandpaper wiping against one of the axles on the tender?

The B12 and the Hall had the chuffing device, others may have had it too.  There was a cam on the rear tender axle, which brushed against a roughened phosphor bronze spring to produce the "chuff". The spring was attached to a soundbox to amplify the sound.  The tender had to be fairly tall to accommodate the box. To disable the chuff, the cam could be moved along the axle to move it away from the spring. Blissful silence!

I have  Triang-Hornby Lord Westwood which still has its chuff chuff sound.    It is only very slightly convincing as a steam loco sound when running in reverse.  Going forwards it sounds to me more like the "quack quack" of a duck, and my wife says it doesn't even sound like a duck, more like something is wrong with the loco.

And Flying Scotsman

And it was more convincing than DCC steam loco sound.

Yes I did tell someone that!

I recall providing the "chuff chuff" sound effects with my own mouth! Those were the days! When I'm completely alone, I've been known to recreate past glories! :dancer:

Westwood is a Hall with the Triang chairmans name and their Margate phone number, so it would have Chuff as standard.

I thought that might be the case (Flying Moneypit, that is).  And unless you're prepared to spend at least as much as the loco cost to get a good DCC steam sound decoder, then that too.  Diesels, on the other hand...

Chuff is more convincing on the Hall and B12 as they are 2 cylinder locos, less so on an A3 as those are, in reality, three cylindered so the chuffs are a bit off.

Who cares?

My Hall and B12s all have their chuffs silenced. I can do better!  Whooo! Whoo!!!

Yes I did tell someone that!

It's more on sync with the speed of the wheels than a TTS decoder!!!

It’s the boxes that do it!

It is still a lot of ackers for boxed toys. I reckon if somebody paid that for them, they wouldn't make a profit on reselling.

I reckon that a dealer would offer a tenth of what's being asked for this lot and I do have quite a few of the older Corgis on offer here.

The paint finish on that "Heavily rusted Flying Scotsman" looks more like the camouflage pattern on a V2 rocket to me.

But what do I know? I'm not a professional weathering artist....

It looks like the poor loco has come off second best in a particularly vicious custard pie fight.

I have to admit, this listing has me stumped:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114810793587?hash=item1abb41ae73:g:4ywAAOSwnohgmV9t

Completely random starting price, supposedly 58 or possibly 50 "kit built" wagons but only the one picture which shows a few wagons, an old Mk1 coach and a badly painted Schools Class kit (Dapol one?) so what is the deal here?

The coach is a Kitmaster BSK...

The other visible stuff is Airfix (or Dapol) wagons. The schools could be Dapol, I think that they have issued the kits with other transfers...Kitmaster and Airfix only issued BR livery  models of “Harrow” I think.....

Not a good way of selling....you can use 12 photos for the same price as the one these days....so come on, shew what you are selling?

Lots of other listings, so time poor for putting up more photos?

"Doctor! I think that I'm in love with my gas fire!"

"Don't worry about it, you're a heaterosexual...."

Interesting they say they'll be selling all their collection.

Listing, yes; selling, doubtful to say the least.

Suddenly 'Item no longer available' and the amount of wagons went up to 62 in the process...

Bizarre...
