Pendle Forest Model Railway Society - Annual Exhibition 2017

East Lancashire model railway enthusiasts are in for a real treat when the Pendle Forest Model Railway Society holds it’s annual model railway exhibition on Saturday & Sunday November 18th – 19th. The exhibition will be at Park High School, Venables Av, Colne and the Society reckons they will have something there for everyone.

Top of the bill is the Society’s layout ‘Earby’ which recaptures the look of the station and the surrounding area as it was in the 1960’s. Never slow to latch on to modern technology, Society members have created most of the buildings using 3D printing and the result is very impressive.

An unusual item of possible historical significance is ‘Rock n Rail’ a model of an early rail way based on artifacts discovered in a dig on a local allotment. Whilst the dating of the items found has yet to be determined it would seems possible that rail ways might well have been around a few millennia before the currently accepted historical dates of the early 1800’s!

At the exhibition will be many other layouts in a range of different scales and gauges, modellers from Creil, France will be there with a modeling workshop, there will be a demonstration of weathering techniques and children will have the chance to drive a train themselves.

Alongside the models there will be a range of traders selling everything from train sets to kits and detailing parts plus there will be full catering available throughout the event.

The exhibition is open from 10am to 5pm Saturday, 10am to 4pm Sunday and there is full disabled access to the show.
    Admission is £5.00 adults, £3.00 children, £4.00 concessions and £14.00 families (2+2)
Further details from David Carter on 07770 331348

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some of the models on show this year will be :

Earby – showing Earby station as it was in the 1096s
Oldswick TMD OO – a modern locomotive maintenance depot.
Burnaby – a North American layout.
Whittham Grove – a London based scene.
Penna Lane - servicing centre for locomotives and diesel multiple units.
Cleggworth - is set in the Pennines in ‘Last of the summer wine’ country.
Oldham King Street – a small fictional station and parcels depot in North West England.
Leighmoor Bois – Hornby Dublo 3rail trains
Lego – trains from the well known toy manufacturer
Boats – a display of boats in various scales

      By John P.,
Quite easy and fairly straightforward to enter an event.
    • Hillingdon Railway Modellers - Test Track Open Day
      By Solderpete,
A friendly get-together and good chance to run your models.
The refreshments are pretty good too.
    • Lincoln district model railway exhibition
      By Dagworth,
A well presented local club show with around a dozen layouts in 2, 4 and 7mm scales. The O gauge layout was actually one of the smallest layouts present.

Layouts were a mix of entertaining fiction through to well researched models of real places and places that had previously had railways but modelled as though those lines had survived the Beeching cull. A good mix of steam era and more modern diesel content too. One exhibit showed the true definition of a tail chaser, the train missing it's own tail by about 2 millimetres.
I was there helping with a layout presented as a work in progress that got quite a lot on interest showing how a layout was built.

A good social and meal on the Saturday evening in a local pub added to a great all-round weekend.

The show was VERY busy both days!

My thanks to the organising club and to @Clive Mortimore for letting me be his wingman for the weekend

      By Clive Mortimore,
Well done to Sean who organised the show.
    • Lincoln district model railway exhibition
      By Grampus,
A really enjoyable local show. I've just come back from spending a couple of hours there this afternoon. Friendly people and some great modelling. My personal favourite layout was 'Horncastle', which ticked a lot of (mostly blue and yellow with Railfreight grey and red) boxes for me. Well worth popping along tomorrow if you have a few minutes to spare. Thanks to all concerned for a nice afternoon out.

      All the best,

      Paul
