Model Railway Show and Workshop in PorthmadogNow in its fourth year, this event was the brainchild of the late Paul Towers. Previously held at Minffordd station on the Ffestiniog, this year we relocate to Y Ganolfan Community Centre by the harbour in Porthmadog. We are continuing the show in the manner he envisaged - as a venue where people can come and chat to real modellers who want to share their skills and experiences and show that anyone can build a model railway if they so desire. There will be Memorial Service for Paul at St Cyngar's Church in Borth-y-Gest, just outside Porthmadog on Friday 16th at 2pm with refreshments afterwards.
With the increased space available, this year we have fifteen layouts in scales ranging from 2mm up to 16mm. Although predominately narrow gauge (well we are hosting the show in the epicentre of narrow gauge railways...) there are standard gauge layouts in 2mm and 4mm scale too. We have invited seven modellers to share their skills in most fields of modelling. The new venue is situated right by the harbour in Porthmadog, just the other side of Britannia Bridge from the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Harbour Station. There will be Garratts passing the front door during the show and it is only a hundred yard walk to be on the platform of the FfWHR. Refreshments will be available at the show, or for a full bar and restaurant, Spooners on the station platform will be open as usual. Car parking is free in the railway's Llyn Bach car park, a pleasant five minute walk from the venue. Blue Badge Holder parking on site and also (free)at the Harbour Station.
