Z scale layout using Marklin and Peco items to show a multi train layout masuring 8' x 3'.
This is a freelance model based loosely on the operation of Deutsche Bundesbahn between 1958 and 1999.
There are steam, diesel and electric operations with occasional visitors from other countries.
It all started in 2015 when Gill liked the look of a small steam loco and several beer cars. The layout didn’t get started until 2022 and the idea was to build a small coffee table layout. As you can see the original plan has grown a bit since that idea.
All the buildings were built by Gill and the planning was all her own ideas as well. Mike did the wiring and track laying to assist.
The buildings consist of mostly stock items from Kibri, Faller, Vollmer and Märklin. Some items have been hand crafted, such as the platforms and the small bridge over the stream. The majority of buildings are lit with LEDs including the street lamps. The level crossing warning lamps were adapted to a standard Faller product which in turn was adapted to fit the curved situation.

All track work and catenary is stock Märklin and is based on their standard Z track. The power, which is DC, is also supplied to the catenary, so individual circuits are obtained by using two controllers per track.
The inner track is automatic allowing two trains to run the one line. The outer track is manually controlled and all lines are signal controlled.
