<p>Hi,</p>
<p>I was playing about on Google Earth and came across this line. Follwing it down the valley, although very overgrown, the track was in situ at the time of the passing of the camera van. Is it still there or has it been lifted? What was the line used for? I assume it was coal, but were any other industries involved?  Can anyone direct me to further information?</p>
<p>Kind regards,</p>

	Hi All,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I would very much appreciate some help in sourcing some locally-themed or locally-located (!!!) layouts for the 2024 Bala Model Show. We had 30 layouts at the 2023 Show and those with a strong local theme were very popular. For instance, one of the  highlights of the Show was when a 91-year old lady, who had been born in the old signalman's house at Drws-y-Nant, saw a miniature version of that house on the 2mm Finescale layout modelled of the station.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	We will endeavour to keep the Show 50/50 narrow gauge and standard, and have some very interesting possibilities already. We are happy to welcome layouts representing any part of Britain or the rest of the world, in any era, gauge or scale, and in any format from micro- to mega-, and all suggestions are welcome.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	All that said, I have found since I took over the Show that the hardest type of layout to source is Welsh-set standard gauge, particularly 4mm and larger. That strikes me as odd, but perhaps I am not hanging out with the right people.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Suggestions based on more than a guess that the owner of a particular layout would be interested in our Show would be particularly welcome!
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I already have quite a long list of layouts that can't come and am in contact with most of the model railway clubs of northern Wales and across the border. We can't afford to pay for accommodation, I'm afraid, but we can supply free pitches for camper vans and the like. We do of course pay travel expenses but the total exhibitor expenses bill for our 30-layout 2023 Show was c.£800 and we can't go much over that.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Oh, and by the way, our 2024 Show dates, 21st and 22nd September, are the weekend before Stafford, in spite of what some show brochures may have suggested!
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Best Wishes / Cofion Gorau,
</p>

<p>
	Mat P. (Bala Lake Railway Society Secretary and Bala Model Show Organiser)

	For some time I’ve wondered if there were any other modellers living in the Bala / Ruthin / Corwen / Llangollen / Wrexham or just over the border (Oswestry).
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The clubs in Rhyl, Chester and over the NMRA group over in Crewe are just a little too far for a regular visit. I live between Llangollen and Corwen, and would consider co-ordinating some sort of informal members day style event in this part of the county to get the ball rolling? Is anyone else actively modelling (or not) and in the area and is interested?

	In the John Hodge Barry Railway book, there is a reference to a GWR service that ran in the 1930s from Barry to Llandrindod Wells, running via Merthyr.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Whilst I understand the route the train would take from Barry as far as Merthyr, I am a bit puzzled as to which way it would have gone after that.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Would it have run north from Merthyr to Three Cocks Jct and thence to Builth Road and make an awkward shunt from the Low Level station to the LMS line via the connecting line?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Or would it have taken the other route at Three Cocks and proceeded to Hereford and then north to Craven Arms, reverse and then down to Llandrindod Wells?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Many thanks.

	I've recently been reading the most excellent book on the Bridgend to Treherbert route published by Pen &amp; Sword - <a href="https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/Railways-and-Industry-in-the-Tondu-Valleys-Hardback/p/15793" rel="external nofollow">https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/Railways-and-Industry-in-the-Tondu-Valleys-Hardback/p/15793</a> and found the whole story of the Rhondda Tunnel fascinating.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I remember the old British Rail Passenger Network Map of 1968, which showed the line as operational, which indeed it was until that year, with the bus service replacing the train through the tunnel section between Blaengwynfi (or was it Cymmer?) and Treherbert.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I then found this organisation on the internet - <a href="https://www.rhonddatunnelsociety.co.uk/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.rhonddatunnelsociety.co.uk/</a> - they look like a worthy organisation and the project sounds very exciting.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Does anyone on here know any more about this project and how likely it is to become a reality, please?

	Cheers.

			I am attempting a scratch build of the old Taff Vale station at Merthyr Tydfil and I wondered if you could advise me what coaches would be suitable for the period between 1950-60 on the Merthyr to Cardiff line. I believe the locos used were primarily 56XXs and just want to make it as prototypical as possible.

	Other than noting the ubiquitous 64xx and autocoach(es), I'm a bit out of my comfort zone in responding to the enquiry. Over to you. (I initially assumed the date period did not intrude into DMU days, but I suppose it does really.)

<p>Hi everyone</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I've just finished reading The Taff Vale Railway by DSM Barrie (which my Dad gave me thinking I might be interested) and it kept mentioning the GWR terminus at Clarence Road. I live just across the river from Butetown and I'd love to know more about this.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Can anyone point me in the direction of some information about Cardiff Clarence Road station in the docks. I'm presuming it's not the current Cardiff Bay station. Pointers to good books on the subject (with pictures!) would be really welcome.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Thanks all.</p>

<p>
	Just introducing myself. I live in the mid-Swansea Valley. Although I've only recently joined RMweb my railway modelling stretches back fifty years <span><img alt=":O" data-emoticon="" src="https://media-eu.invisioncic.com/y320084/emoticons/default_shok.gif" title=":O" /> My interests include: 4mm narrow gauge (009) and 00 standard gauge in keeping with this part of Wales and the central Marches (GWR/MR/LNWR/LMS). I am a regular at the Swansea and Cardiff shows and have been known to go off piste to the Cadoxton exhibition! <img alt=";)" data-emoticon="" src="https://media-eu.invisioncic.com/y320084/emoticons/default_wink3.gif" title=";)" /></span>

<p>
	Hi all,<br />
	I'm trying to contact Brian Williams from Swansea MRC<br />
	Brian was a good friend of the late John Spencer (RIP mate <span><img alt=":(" data-emoticon="" src="https://media-eu.invisioncic.com/y320084/emoticons/default_sad.png" title=":(" /> )<br />
	It's in regard to the stock John used to run on "Ruyton Road"<br />
	<br />
	I have the layout, and would like to just get hold of at least one loco John used to run on it...<br />
	And I have been contacted by a gentleman who would like to know where one or two other items went<br />
	<br />
	Any help would be greatly appreciated <img alt=":)" data-emoticon="" src="https://media-eu.invisioncic.com/y320084/emoticons/default_smile3.gif" title=":)" /><br />
	<br />
	Just drop me a PM<br />
	<br />
	Cheers all<br />
	Marc</span>
