Hi,

I'm in the early stages of building a southern/London based 00 scene. I've made some buildings using paper brick which looks pretty decent, however I've ordered some Slater's brick sheets and would like to try this.

I'm aiming for a London Yellow brick colouring (albeit aged) and was wondering what recommendations there would be for acrylic paint colours?

	Thanks

I am trying to establish whether there was ever a OO model of the LNER 04/6 class with side window cab. I saw a model of an 04 with Belpaire firebox with side window cab which makes it an 04/6 and I'm wondering whether it's a bodge job or a kit or even RTR. As 04/6 were vacuum braked it could do an excursion train, I don't want to start bodging if it turns out Bachmann did one RTR, but I will have a spare cab when I lengthen a D11 to make a B2... and a 04 cab would change a D11 to a D10.

I have seen plenty of discussion on track cleaning, but have never seen the subject of cleaning rolling stock wheels discussed...

For my locomotives, I rub round the wheel tyres with a cotton bud dampened with IPA. To get round the whole tyre, I have to apply power. Sometimes, I'll run the locomotive on my rolling road and just hold the cotton bud to each wheel in turn, while the motor does all the work.

However, I have just started to address my vast collection of carriages and wagons and it becomes a problem of what's practical? Someone I know suggested that I lay a piece of kitchen towel over a length of track and run the item back and forth over it. I used a micro-fibre cleaning cloth (they come on a roll) soaked in IPA. This seemed to work well enough on lightly dirty wheels; but this method does not have a rubbing action on the tyre and so does nothing to shift the heavy black coating that is on most of my heavily used carriage wheels.

For this, my fallback is the cotton bud and a vigorous rubbing action as I slowly turn the wheel while holding the item upside-down. However, that means a lot of cotton buds and it will be a slow, laborious, process. Almost all of my wheels are metal, there's still a few plastic tyres that I have not replaced yet.

Has anyone any good suggestions for removing the level of dried-on muck that blackens an otherwise shiny metal tyre?

	Thank you

Post your links to useful modelling bargains here. And that includes tools and materials that may be of use, not just models.

Please note that these bargains are to available others - at the time of posting - and not that you've just obtained the one and only available item.

A quick reply to say that the posted bargain is now out of stock may be useful.

Please add any extra information that may be helpful to others - for example - only available to shop callers/not an online offer etc.

The odd discussion and question about said bargains are welcomed, but don't go mad with it, or the self-appointed Bargain Hunter Police (definitely not me!) will be on your case.

If it belongs in the ebay madness thread, then post there instead.

There's no need for "me too " or "there's one less now" posts. Just tick the "Thanks" box.

Likewise - no need for "thank you" posts - just tick the "Thanks" box - that's what it's for.

Amazon bargains are often only bargains for a few minutes.

These posts will be checked and then removed if they become non-bargains.

It may be that it's a bargain in another country - no need to reply "but if you add customs/VAT etc...."

Also - this is NOT a review thread - see the respective manufacturer threads for those.

I've admitted elsewhere that I'm a DCC novice / numpty. My issue is that my sound-fitted 7mm Dapol Sentinel is very erratic in operation. It was bought as 12V DC but then sound fitted for me by Dapol at their Chirk office. It's very little used and now out of warranty. On the layout it is rather unreliable. It runs more or less ok cab-first but poorly bonnet first. It will stall at the slightest opportunity and the sound then falters. On a micro layout it needs to be able to run slowly and reliably, mine does not. I tested it on a very short length of track using a standard 12V analogue controller and it seemed to run reasonably well but not totally reliably. I am assuming the pick-ups are the issue but I'm not certain. I have cleaned the track physically and chemically. My Heljan Ruston 48DS runs smoothly and slowly, 6 feet in 5 minutes without a hitch ( it does have stay-alive) so I think I have proved that the track is not the issue. I would be grateful for any ideas please.

I've just received two of the second run Class 56s, 56036 and 56037 and both seem to be suffering wheel slip/spin and loss of traction when pulling a train. I have 56070 from the first run which pulls the same wagons without any issues at all. 56070 did suffer the bogie tower problem initially but since that was fixed it has run faultlessly and I have checked the new locos for the same issue but it all seems to be in order. I have already had an exchange from Rails of Sheffield for 56037 as I thought at first there seemed to be excessive grease around the wheels but the replacement exhibits the same problem and so does 56036 which arrived today. I would rather try to determine the problem and fix it than send these back. It definitely seems to be traction related as the locos struggle to start off and then slow or even stop when the train is on a curve, my minimum radius curve is third radius and the wagon load has to be reduced to 4 wagons before performance is what I would call acceptable.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Any suggestions to fix greatly appreciated.

For one diorama i'm looking to make, I am on the hunt for some figures that depict football fans - just walking along the street, nothing fancy. At the moment I can't quite find what I am looking for - appreciate there are a few options from the likes of Langley, etc., but the figures would be needed in a fair quantity (min. 30 really to make the scene feel realistic), and hence wanted to see if there were any other options out there. Any ideas would be appreciated.

	Many thanks in advance

Hello all, I am looking for photos of the conveyor type unloader that was used at some Household coal depots that recieved coal in HEA wagons in the 80's and 90's please. I am looking to model one in O gauge, I have found one or two photos online but looking for more inspiration. Thank you if you can help.

This photo by Larry Goddard was taken in Glan Conway yard (Llandudno Junction) this is the thing I am looking for photos of but maybe one of the smaller less compicated versions.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a suitable business or individual to undertake some lathe work for me?

I need a quantity of short lengths of 1/16" brass tube or rod centre drilled with a 1mm drill to give lengths of 1/16" OD and 1mm ID tube. The lengths need to be 100 each of 3mm and 5.5mm long with vertical ends.

I really don't fancy buying a lathe and learning how to do it myself - I don't have the space for one or the desire to find another rabbit hole to get lost in.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve my 009 layout? It’s booked into its second exhibition soon and I really want to make sure it’s looking good. I can’t quite tell what it is, but something’s bugging me about the way it looks. Any advice to shift it up a notch?
