That in itself makes the museum a "MUST GO TO" place for a day out, but for their upcoming STEAM UP on Feb 28th/March 1st there will be an extra attraction as they will be hosting Twickenham & District MRC who will be bringing along several layouts and a S/H stand.

Upstairs, Hundreds of rare, out-of-print and many near-perfect condition books will be on sale.

There are titles from all the major publishers; Wild Swan, Oxford Publishing Company, Ian Allan, Oakwood Press, Middleton Press, David & Charles, etc. plus books from many of the smaller publishers, with limited print runs.

Downstairs, next to the refreshment area, lots of bargains can also be found amongst the shelves of the half-marked-price sale of many of the more common second-hand titles.

Also available at the Museum are brand new books from the Lightmoor Press range of quality titles and the new book by Colin T. Gifford, "In the Wink of an Eye" is on sale alongside the latest releases.

Some of you may or may not have heard of the Model Rail Replacement Podcast, we are as the title suggest a model railway based podcast and have been running for around 2 years. We cover all sorts of topics, some serious some fun and we have all sorts of guests from YouTubers to Manufactures.

We are trying to have a yearly tradition of raising money for a good cause at Christmas, last year we raised over £300 for the All aboard Club.

This year we are raising Money for Cash 4 Kids to support their Mission Christmas campaign which raises money to provide gifts for Children who are less fortunate and without this wonderful charity may not receive anything this year.

This year we have decided to hold a raffle with some amazing prizes which will be giving away in bundles from 4th to 1st place.

We also have other prizes winging their way to us from Modelu, Buggleskelly Stationn, Sawyer Models and Hornby, plus a few more of our friends from the model railway world are donating items.

Opening hours 10am to 4.30pm.

Thousands of photographs for sale from 20 tables of dealers,

plus Kidderminster Railway Museum's own photograph archive will also be available to view.

The Railway and Transport Book Fair will also be open on the upper floor of the Museum, on both January 4th and 5th. 

Over a thousand rare and out of print railway books, many in mint condition, and extremely hard to find. 

In addition, on the ground floor there are hundreds of other second-hand railway books for sale, all at half the labelled price; plus many new books from publishers Lightmoor Press and Kidderminster Railway Museum.

I'll be there, demonstrating building buildings and stuff.

We intend to display several club members' layouts (currently 8 planned), and there will be a stand and working display from the Romsey Signal Box group. 

The show plan indicates our location to be placed between the Classic Cars and the Vintage Vehicles displays.

The Romsey Show also includes Horses, Donkeys, Livestock, Shopping & Craft marquees, food court, fair, several show rings and other displays as one would expect from a town & country show - so something for everyone several members of the family!

Today, I spent a number of hours at this event.

There was a wide array of rolling stock present ranging from steam to the present day.

’Clan Line’ 35028 was present as well.

Access to the maintenance sheds was also possible - something that is normally out of bounds to the public.

The sun was out which also provided the opportunity to take some great photo’s too.

All in all an excellent event.

It will be at the Clubrooms in London Rd station Brighton. This is in Shaftesbury Place of Ditching Rise BN1 4QS. 
The event starts at 1000 and ends at 1400.  Entrance is free.
There will a big selection of preowned model railway items including locomotives, rolling stock accessories and track.

Refreshments available too.

Hitachi Newton Aycliffe factory to open its doors for Railway Bicentenary Celebrations

A Memorial Service for Paul Towers, who passed away in January this year, will be held on Friday 16th May at 2pm at St Cyngar Church, Borth-y-Gest. The service will be followed by refreshments in the Church room. All are welcome. There will be an opportunity to share your memories of Paul during the service, and afterwards over tea and coffee. 

Paul will be remembered as one of the early pioneers of narrow gauge modelling and his short spell editing the Model Railway News in the 1960s helped push narrow gauge as a serious option to the railway modelling fraternity. 

Please let us know if you are intending to come to the service, so we have an idea of numbers for the refreshments.  A collection will be made on behalf of St Cyngar Church.

The Model Railway Workshop and Show will be held Y Ganolfan, Porthmadog, on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May from 10am to 4pm each day. This is an upscaled version of the Model Railway Workshops that Paul initiated and organised in the Gweithdy on the Ffestiniog Railway in recent years. To be held this year in memory of Paul.

Closure of Carnforth Station Heritage Centre

It is with great regret that the Centre will close for the foreseeable future with effect from Saturday 12 October 2024 as it has become unviable to remain open in the present economic climate. The lease is to be returned to Network Rail and a decision on the future of the Centre made at a later date. The Brief Encounter Bistro and Bar will reman open.

Flying Scotsman - Restoring an icon, will be presented by  Anthony Coulls, Senior Curator from the National Railway Museum, on Saturday 16th October.

The NMM's season of lectures often includes other modes of transport, away from the core motoring subjects, and this a rare opportunity to hear the official story of the restoration of the famous locomotive in the south.

We will have resident loco Pitchford Hall, which is always a bit of a head turner anyway, joined by Didcot rebuild Lady of Legend and just found out that we will also have LMS Jubilee 'Leander' which is at the end of its ticket.

Come and listen to the big guns being used on the Essex hills which are surprisingly steep.
