Cradles for Warwells

Hi All,

A while back, I sourced some of Hatton’s ‘Warwell’ wagons. These were to transport my ‘Warrior’ tanks.

However, prototypically, a steel frame would be sat on the wagon deck and the military vehicle would be mounted on this.

Trains4U in Peterborough have recently produced a 3D printed cradle made specifically for this (thanks Gavin!).

This simply requires cleaning & then painting - Tamiya NATO green (XF -67) these can then be attached to the Warwell with black tack or similar & the ‘Warrior’ positioned on this.

Job done!

In 2020, our exclusive Cavalex Models OO Warflat wagons were delivered, and whilst they have sold successfully, we still have a fair number left.

One of the comments we most often heard was "I'd buy some, but there's no proper vehicles to put on them"

In order to reignite sales of the Warflats, we considered options for appropriate vehicles that would complement them.
With that in mind, we have commissioned several designs that can be produced in-house on Resin 3D printers.

As of today, we have three types of vehicle, with a further 8 (including variations) being released at Alexandra Palace on the 18th of March 2023 .

The news of these vehicles has been posted to the Cavalex Warflat thread, but as the range is quickly growing, I felt that they deserved to be put under our own banner.
Each main vehicle type will have its own thread - with vehicle variations kept in the respective topic.

Whilst the vehicles have been produced with 1:76 (OO) scale in mind, some are also available in 1:148 (N) and they can be produced at different scales on request.

All vehicles are supplied unpainted and require some finishing and assembly.

Up to now, our range of vehicles has been growing to complement our OO Cavalex Warflat wagons,
However, we have now commissioned a couple of exclusive Warwells from Hatton's. due to arrive early in 2024.

The first vehicle we have commissioned is the Mastiff MRAP, in as-delivered condition.

available in two versions. Combat (in driveable condition) and Transport (With a realigned centre axle to represent a vehicle loaded on a Warwell)

As you can see, this is a substantial vehicle and fills a warwell (Image below shows a combat version, the transport version has a realigned middle axle so the tyres are on the deck)

T4U Military | SIII 3/4ton GS Truck

Surpisingly, the military SIII 109 GS Truck is very hard to find in 1:76 scale.

Trains4U is pleased to provide kits of this ubiquitous vehicle in both soft-top and hard-top versions.

These vehicles were introduced in 1969 and produced until 1985, with the British Military acquiring over 10,000, with some lasting well into the 1990s.

The kits are provided unpainted and comprise a one piece open body with either hard-top or Canvas hood with separate tailgate

For the 1:76 versions, Pre-cut acrylic glazing and paint masks for the wheels are provided.

These kits are priced at

T4U Military | British Army WMIK

Trains4U offers four versions of the British Army 4x4 Weapons Mount Installation Kit (WMIK)

These 3D printed resin kits are supplied unpainted and are presented as a one-piece body, with five separate wheels and paint masks for the wheels on 1/76 versions

They are available in 1:76 (OO) scale for £10 each or in 1:148 (N) at 2 for £10

These variations represent the WMIK based on the Land Rover Wolf TUM throughout it’s lifetime.

1. British Army WMIK

This is the original WMIK

note the “Wolf” wheels with G90 tyres

This vehicle was Introduced in 1999

The release date for this kit is 18/03/2023

2. British Army EWMIK

This vehicle represents the Enhanced WMIK or EWMIK, which incorporated changes to the comms systems, underbody armour and weapons mounts. The only real visible difference is the fifteen spoke alloy wheels with v-grip tyres.

This upgrade was applied from 2006

The release date for this kit is 18/03/2023

3. British Army RWMIK (unarmoured)

This was the second kit released by Trains4U and represents the Revised WMIK

The revisions included upgraded armour protection and full front rollcage

These upgrades were applied from 2009 and these vehicles are still in service

This kit is available now

4. British Army RWMIK+ (Armoured)

This was Trains4U’s first 3D printed vehicle and represents the up-armoured RWMIK+

these modifications were applied from 2010

this kit is available now.

Bachmann 150/1 Original Provincial Livery - They're here!

Trains4U have commissioned a run of 500 OO scale 150/1 DMUs in the original Provincial Livery.

All 50 class 150/1s were delivered in this livery between 1985 and 1986.

The original thread for this topic can be found Here on the old RMWeb forum.

The Bachmann model carries modifications to the front end of the unit, most noticably, the removal of bodywork cowlings beneath the steps on the cab front.

The chosen unit, 150135 is one of a small number that retained this livery after the modifications were made

see evidence of 150135 at Doncaster in 1992.

These models are available now for GBP 95.00 each + GBP 4.00 P&P per order.

Delivery is due Thursday 11th March.

They've Arrived!

The class 150s will be delivered to us tomorrow - so cards will be charged, calls will be made and models shipped over the next couple of weeks, starting tomorrow!

Sound models will be following in two to three weeks time.

Photos of the production model will be up in the next day or two.

Today is the ex-factory date given by Bachmann. So with luck, all 504 have been produced and will soon be on their way from China.

Sound fitted

I am pleased to say that we are able to offer a small number of these units with sound on board. Working in conjunction with Olivia's Trains these units will be available ready fitted with Olivia's Trains class 150 recording.

These will be expected to retail for approximately GBP 190.00 - If you want one, let me know soon as numbers are very strictly limited.

Livery Sample

The following images show the pre production model.

Please note that this is not the final version and the following modifications are being made;

The bottom band of grey - painted in Regional Railways silver-grey on the livery sample, is being replaced with the correct Intercity Executive Light Grey (As on the lower band of Intercity liveried carriages)

The white stripe indicating the parcels area is being made thicker so the bottom of the stripe is in line with the rain strips.

A little more black paint is being added around the bottom of the cab front on the inside, so that no turquoise is shown.

The turquoise (Provincial light blue) looks very bright out of the box, but looks much the same as the 142 and railmatch provincial light blue.

I don't normally write reviews unless there is something especially good or especially bad about a product or service. But in this case I believe Trains4U has given that especially good service and deserves the credit for it.

A passing comment from me about a photo of T4U's second hand display- particularly in relation to the now quite rare Heljan Kestrel- saw a PM from them telling me that it was still available and provisionally put aside for me if I wanted it. First point: here is a retailer that actually reads comments on their thread- most don't.

So, I phone up to pay for it and casually mention: "I don't suppose the Falcon and DP2 are still there though...." only to find they were.

Eventually I got over to collect them and I have to say how impressed I was with the shop; I can only think of one other shop that has such a comprehensive stock- everything from the latest releases through to the bits and bobs that we all tend to need from time to time. A quick browse saw me add a rather nice 4MT and equally attractive J15. Before I knew it, they were being tested on the T4U track to make sure they were all functioning OK- not all retailers do that!

So praise to T4U for reading their threads, for keeping those locos for me until I had chance to get there, for a really great range and for generally great customer service.

I'll be seeing them next payday for a 37 and K1...

Trains4u is my local model shop specialising in trains amongst other things ( plastic kits and slot cars)

I have been a regular customer for a few years now, and more recently have been helping out in the shop.

Trains4u has been in the city of Peterborough since 2004. I only found out about it 3 and a bit years ago....

Now the reason I am on here tonight , is that I do not want anyone else , not knowing , that such a great model shop is in the area ! And with the show at Peterborough coming up and many of you most likely being there why not pop along and check out Trains4u!

Many thanks to Gareth and his team in Peterborough for the prompt and efficient service that I got when ordering City of Lancaster from them. Well packed, and arrived in good shape, complete with all the necessary supporting invoices etc.

It was just unfortunate and totally outside Trains 4U's control that the Royal Mail decided yesterday not to deliver any mail at all in our village due to "staffing problems", so had the post been normal, that would have been well under a 24 hour turnround and delivery which is extremely good service indeed by any standards.

I would certainly recommend Trains 4U to anybody looking for the best service around, and also very keen prices - box shifters beware, this operation will give you a run for your money.

evening all i popped into trains4u this afternoon and left with a Heljan 86 in intercity livery for a bargain price of £68, there seemed to be a full range of liveries available( electric blue, intercity, virgin and freightliner) no connection just chuffed with a bargain

Another break-in. And an Arrest!

The phone rang at 12:15 last night.

Alarms have gone off - Police called.

Yet another break-in at Trains4U. But this time, the internal defences that we installed after the last break-in worked, and the burglar was caught by the police literally red handed!

The idiot smashed through the secondary door to our front office, broke down a couple of internal doors and proceeded to the second-hand cabinet.

He then decided to help himself to the practically worthless (In comparison to what you could fit into a pocket if you know what you are looking for) Lima and 1970's minitrix locos.

Then he tried - unsuccessfully - to get out...

Panicked, he tried to get out through the Toilet, dropping more models - no way out there.

Went to the front doors and broke the bolts forcing his way through to the roller shutter he couldn't open.

Went round to the side door and left a big bloody hand print for the SOCOs

Started to REALLY panic and went into the stockroom, overturining a large rack of Bachmann wagons to get to the second roller-shutter that he couldn't open.

Then he went up onto the mezzanine and tried to rip his way out through the roof!

By which time, six policemen and a rather large Alsation had arrived!

I turned up just after the dog unit and when the barking started, a face appeared at the front door, begging not to be harmed.

The police knew him by name... Typical, so I handed over my keys and they bundled him into the back of the van.

A conviction is certain, and the police hope this will be enough to send him down - Lets wait and see.

Anyway, Despite all the damage, I'm pleased with the result. We need to make further modifications to our security, and we have an excess to pay, but we should have a few insurance write-offs to help cover the losses, mostly second hand, but a fair few Bachmann wagons and Hornby carriages have been trampled (Mostly box damage)

Yes there a has been a lot of damage, and there is a fair bit of inconvenience, but all in all a good result. The glass was replaced and the alarm repaired by 1:30, so thanks to Jensen security and R.A. Baker Glaziers. But most of all, thanks to Cambridgeshire constabulary, who turned up en-masse within three minutes of the call.

I'll list the insurance write-offs if and when we get the OK from the insurance company.

So hopefully this will be a lesson - break in at Trains4U and the next person you'll greet is a policeman - or if the policeman gets his way, the sharp end of his dog!

After getting it fixed, and all the oil cleaned off the bodywork, We've finally had it sign written. Its already attracted a number of new customers, so it's working!

I've not been active on here much lately due to various factors, but I'm hoping to be making more of a contribution over the coming months.
