Spotted in my local shop, the Hornby Class 56 094 In Colas Rail livery has arrived. This is DCC Sound so a cool £247.95.

Hopefully DCC Ready version isn't far behind.

If you see the banner at the top with a Colas 56 - that's my sound fitted 56094............................. !

Cheers,

Mick

Has the sound improved on 56094, or the same recording as previous Hornby Grids ?

Dunno - my 56 is fitted with a legomanbiffo decoder. (I did my 56094 last year....)

Cheers,

Mick

Had one preordered from Hattons for £229.90, cancelled it yesterday afternoon as Rails had theirs in stock for £217.95, waited long enough!

I have legomanbiffos 56 on V4.0. with a bass speaker in my Fastline 56 and have to say it is the absolute business.     I have watched some videos on youtube of Hornby Class 56 Sound locos and was not convinced, I will try Hornby's sound with their standard speaker, and maybe try it with a Bass Speaker, but I suspect the answer will be a reblow from biffo and a bass speaker.

I sometimes work at Paisley Gilmour Street and hear these things at full power and a tinny standard speaker will not suffice!

Think they wil fly out :locomotive:

Colas 56s have bit of following these days... :senile:

I have to agree, i think they will sell out quickly, especially 087. I am trying to resist 094 as i have a soft spot for that!

I am tempted to buy Sound 56094 but the additional one hundred pounds or so could be spent on buying some more new wagons.

I am looking at buying 56087 though and possibly a second one to have renumbered. I will have to see how far the money stretches though

I think they will sell out very fast. Sound 56094 wasn't in stock yesterday though at my local model shop although other shops already have them in.

Had a quick tinker on the layout with 56094 before I left for work this morning, Hornby are using a v.4.3 decoder as stated in the instruction leaflet. Sounds are ok, but the characteristic scream still isnt quite there and there is still no spirax valve/air tick sounds. Reblow methinks!

well I've had a bit more time with the loco, the sounds really dont capture the class 56. notching it up to full power does produce a pitched rumbling noise but its not the characteristic scream from a class 56.

The fans are not connected to the flywheel, it seems the clutch and flywheel rubberband have been forgotten on this model. while it was not to everyone's taste the revolving fan blades, it's something I liked. most of the time anyway after a while the fans and the clutch mechanism gives up!

Paint finish wise its good, the only slight quibbles are that on one side the transition between the yellow and the orange is a little off. but its only noticeable if you have the loco virtually touching your glasses!

Its a very good model, that is let down badly with a very poor set of sounds. the sound reblowers will shortly have a rash of class 56s in for reblow shortly I think!

Do you have to take the decoder out of the loco to have it reblown or can the loco be sent complete.

four screws tucked away above the bogies and the bodyshell and chassis easily lift apart. top of the chassis is the decoder which you gently lift out of the socket and post in a small jiffy bag special delivery to Howes or South West Digital or Legomanbiffo for much better sounds.

You can send them a complete loco, but postage costs will be higher with the added risk of damaging the loco. Even better to meet them at a show and one way postage only, either before or after.

Cheers,

Mick

When I took the top off my 56091, it wasn't just a simple removal like a Bachmann set up. Fitted and removed them in Bachmann but iirc it was hard wired in and not spade connectors. The Howes 56 seems to capture the sound best from videos I've seen.

Just picked my colas 56 up from trident trains, ended up buying the sound chipped one in the end, by the time i buy a separate chip and fit it up its not worth the hassle

Richard has the 2 variants on sale at £125.79 and £223.20 respectivly, (cheaper than hattons)
