steamymel
I wonder if anyone out there can help me please - I'm building a model of Collett 0-4-2 Tank number 1443 (shedded at Southall), and cannot find a photograph of that particular loco anywhere! All I really want to know is did 1443 have the top-feed or not. 1442 didn't and 1444 did - all very hit and miss! Can anyone shed some light?? Many thanks. All I really want to know is did 1443 have the top-feed or not. ... The photo of 1442 that I'm looking at shows her with a top feed in 1963. Probably a little later than the period you require. 1443 had four boilers during its service life: 8078, 8004, 8012, 8052. If there really are no photos of 1443, then the other way of tackling the mystery is to find out which other engines ran with these four boilers and find photos of those..... I really can't believe that there is no photo of 1443 anywhere - and I've looked through loads of books.

JeffP
Aha!....but that loco is withdrawn.....how do we know they haven't taken the top-feed to use on another loco?
N15class
Aha!....but that loco is withdrawn.....how do we know they haven't taken the top-feed to use on another loco? You can see that nothing was on the boiler cladding or removed from it.
Horsetan
http://www.britishsteam.com/gwr/tanks/image/1443.jpg 1443 was withdrawn on or about 27th June 1957, and was cut up at Swindon about three months later. If the photo is after withdrawal, then the boiler it was carrying would be no.8052.
