That was unexpected, she always seemed so full of life. Yes, one of those personalities who always seemed to be around doing something on TV and she always came across as warm and genuine.

RIP Cilla

I just heard this on the 2pm news, and it is sad, but inevitable that the icons of the 1960s are now of an age where they are going to play the great gig in the sky.  I always admired the way in which Cilla was able to reinvent herself as her career progressed, I really enjoyed the ITV protrayal of her career where the incredible Sheridan Smith played her to great effect.

RIP Cilla, and thanks for all the music and entertainment.

Just took my grandson for a ride in the car to get some petrol (bet you can't guess his name!) and they announced this and then played ....Alfie! - spooky!

She has always been on the TV ever since I was little, and I agree, the recent series where she was portrayed by Sheridan Smith (currently being repeated) was brilliant.

RIP Cilla

A sad loss, one of my wifes faves, she wasnt a fan if her music but just liked the air of glamour that surrounded her, almost from a different era as it were

We were lucky enough to meet her and get her autograph after the panto in aylesbury a few years back, she came from the stage doornin a full length fur coat, dolled up to the nines, smelling of chanel No5, she chatted with my wife and made a fuss of dominic and gethin (who was only about 2 at the time) before getting in her chauffer driven bentley and being whisked home to denham

Just phoned my wife to tell her and she said she is so glad she got to meet her briefly and now cilla will be with her beloved bobby!

Rather a shock to hear she's gone! While I couldn't stand the Saturday night bilge she was involved with later she was a superb singer in her younger days and was responsible for many classic records. R.I.P.

Back in the 60s it was incredibly difficult to get a top ten record even harder to get a number one record. Yet Cilla did it more than once. Her mates John and Paul gave her some great songs. But let's not forget she was also given a song by Burt Bacharach.

Very sad to hear today's news I hope she and Bobby are reunited now.

Like her or not she was a huge contributor to British popular culture in the important decade of the Sixties.

I always liked her interpretation of Bacharach and David songs (along with Dionne Warwick) like “Anyone Who Had a Heart” - the best selling single for a female British artist in the Sixties. Her version of another Bacharach and David song “Alfie” is totally world class, as she was.

Best, Pete.
