Fantastic stuff all round, did this pop up on Trainorders Jack? Must have missed it this morning. Love the cars on display from the Rustbucket / Weathering Shop attendees. Looking at the pic of the Athearn display, was that a BN International Caboose just off the right of the picture or just a generic Cupola Caboose from their RTR range in BN livery? That and a decent BNSF Dash 9 are top of my wants list atm so my radar is on :-). Once again thanks for sharing.

Chris - There is a thread on TO (appeared later today http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,3813129 )  , but this actually popped up on the Yahoo Rail-Marine Ops site as a post directing people to the ferry on page 5 - which is where I found it. Posting this sort of thing is not a problem - there are enough people interested in the US side of things who are not necessarily on groups that things like this get posted on - so I just like to drop an occasional "Heads-up" on here and perhaps widen their horizons  a little  :sungum:

EDIT - The LDSIG convention is being held in a week or so in Portland - so we may have some more EyeCandy to view - if anyone posts photos  - I'll be posting the link if there are

If it's the one I'm looking at its the wide-vision from the RTR range in Northern Pacific's last caboose livery.

Thanks Martyn, just looked again and agree, I had two Overland brass International Cabooses in BN and BNSF livery on order but the production run was cancelled due to a lack of demand, it was hinted by the vendor that similar models were on the radar of one of the big manufacturers, didn't know if anything new was planned to be announced at St Louis.

Cheers

OMG - I don't know whether to be inspired or give up!  Gobsmackingly good weathering there.

Take the inspiration.  I finally mustered the courage to weather some of my stuff as a result of attending a clinic at the Cocoa Beach RPM three years ago...I had been utterly terrified of mucking up one of my models.  But after the clinic (Tony Thompson's), I dove in...and have been delighted with the results.

Wouldn't the Atlas one be more suitable for a BN (ex NP) caboose...?

Anyway, nice Steeplecab: (can't get the link to work, it's about halfway through).

It is very nice, I think it's the one featured on the AMB models website.

The Illinois Terminal module was also very nice, too! :)

Cheers,

Mark.

Anyway, nice Steeplecab: (can't get the link to work, it's about halfway through).

The Atlas one is a good starting point but there are two things I personally don't like about that particular model:

1) Unless u can find a BN liveried one they are a pain to strip down remove the lettering from, or strip down to the plastic / perspex shell - tried everything including 99% IPA, air eraser, mineral brake fluid, Modelstrip. - nothing moves the paint and lettering other than sanding and that removes the fine detail.

2) The cupola and inverse roof panel is easy to do as Moloco do an excellent replacement, the platform ends are another thing entirely. I have tried three times using parts from Moloco, Plano and some scratch built assemblies, none are easy to use to build up replacement end platforms to replace the horrible Atlas ones and the resulting assembly is fragile and prone to breaking.

If you are happy to do a quick cosmetic touch up to this model that is the way to go, I have seen an excellent rebuild of the Atlas caboose done by Dan Cortopassi  of TSG Multimedia but I have not been able to achieve the same results.

I keep scouring eBay for a decent Overland model to run or modify and repaint.

Dear RMwebbers,

Did anyone catch the pics of Clark Propst's "Allied Mills" switching layout?
Looks awfully like the "Proto-Layout" people on the US side of the pond finally caught-on to the concepts of "Fork", "Proto-nook", and "foamcore-clipboard"-type layouts for _direct_from_prototype_scene_ layouts...

Happy Modelling,
Aim to Improve,

I have just been having another look at the pictures, the Kodachrome SP Tunnel Motor and BNSF H2 Dash 9 by Gary Christensen are absolutely stunning, I could look at them all day, wonderful stuff  :sungum:  :sungum:  :sungum:

My favourite was the GM&O F unit with some paint on it. (Not much, but some...) Fabulous.

Missed that, beautiful modeling, the skill and eye for detail that these guys have is amazing. My weathering is mainly done using an airbrush with some washes of various shades to lighten, highlight, and grime up models where necessary. I have had some success with dry brushing acrylics and using powders, but when it comes to using acrylics, oils etc to add rust streaks, fade paints, add chipping effects etc on locos and cars I struggle to achieve the effect I desire, despite practicing and practicing. I think I am too heavy handed with brushes or simply do not have an eye for detail like theses guys. I am in absolute awe of what they do which in many cases is even better than some of the military modelling weathering I have seen.

Just to keep you on tenterhooks - a snitch from another forum

Who's going to the National Train Show in Portland?

Cannon and Company will be there in booth 1026, next to Moloco and Tangent. We will have some new laser cut box car kits available for sale. Oh yea, Liz Allen will have a new diesel on display too.

WooHoo! - and Harry Wong is going to be there too in his newly announced capacity as Associate Editor of RMC - so we should get some good photos
