Hi, I have recently bought a Hornby loco and the sound is a bit loud. I have tried lowering the sound with my LH100 Lenz controller but can`t figure out how to do it, although I have done it before with another of my locos. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The sound volume is adjusted via CV63 (assuming it's a Loksound decoder) this can be done on a programming track (if you have one) or by POM - programming on the main, have a look in the Lenz manual for more details.

Hi, thanks for your help. I have tried to programme it on the main track but without success. Been trying for an hour tonight and am completely lost! I would be grateful if you could give me step by step instructions. Many thanks.

It would be worth establishing one detail absent from the thread before Tractor gives instructions....

Does the Hornby Loco definitely have a LokSound decoder fitted ?    If its one of the new RailRoad "TTS Sound" decoders, then its not a LokSound and the volume isn't set with CV63.

As per Nigel's post above, we first need to identify what sound decoder is fitted.

Can you confirm which Hornby model you have, ie the catalogue number, the locos running number and name if it has one, and if it's one of the new Railroad TTS sound models ?

Hi,  The Hornby model is a BR 060 class 08. D3963. There is also another number on the box and this is R3037XS. It is not one of the new Railroad TTS sound models, It is a Loksound.

It has on the instruction sheet, "Before you change any of the volume control CV`s please make sure that the CV31 is set to 16 and CV32 equals 1. These two CV`s are used as index selection registers between the real function of CV 257 - 511.The master volume control is CV63.

OK so a Loksound is indeed fitted a V4 I suspect.  Firstly you DON'T use CV31 /CV32 just to change the overall volume via CV63, they are only used for higher numbered CV's.

The volume range is 0-192 adjusted via CV63

With the loco on the track with the sound ON -  and it's DCC address showing on the screen.

Using POM

Press F then 7

LH100 Screen will show CV

Press enter

Screen will then show C *

Enter 63

Press enter

Screen will then show CV63__

Now enter 80 after the CV63__(80)

Press enter

You should hear the volume drop - depending on where is was originally set.

If not repeat the above and try 60 instead of 80  - the lower the number the quieter the sound
