steve fay
As I'm back modelling in 4mm I thought I'd share some of my progress with you all and hopefully some of you might be able to provide assistance. First up is a Bachmann class 85, usual detail pack supplied added plus bogie triangular steps and lamp brackets.
steve fay
Next up is a Bachmann BG that will be at the tail end on my TPO Including etched steps from Jim Smith Wright Bachmann TPO now riding on replica B5 bogies
steve fay
Bachmann GUV, this will be at the tail end of the sleeper train. Pipes & rubbing plate from replica, etched steps have also been added. ETH bits from plastic strip & wire, It also needs new common wealth bogies. steve fay
MK3 Pullman arrived today, the first of three. First up the bogie I've cut the tension lock couplings off & I will replace the wheels & add disc brake inserts from Pete Harvey, some MK3 bogies had anti slip gear but il have to research this s bit more. On to the body, I managed to get the roof off which was a Pig!! Good job I'm getting laser glaze as I broke two windows. The Pullman transfers were slightly rubbed off so I gently scratched them off & these will be replaced, the silver window frames were also chipped quite a bit so a light sanding sorted them and il reapply with a fine brush. I've also taken the opportunity to respray the yellow 1st class band as this was slightly chipped. Pictures to follow.
sub39h
the silver window frames were also chipped quite a bit so a light sanding sorted them and il reapply with a fine brush Try a silver Sharpie. Works a treat
steve fay
Etched steps going on the MK3's using an etched ladder from eckon Berko. I'm on with the laser glaze & the new transfers have arrived for Sir Stanley Matthews. I've ordered some tiny magnets & im going to try some wires like James Makin's cracking HST
steve fay
Flush glazing added to two coaches with another set on the way. Next job is to mask up and respray the yellow band.
Removed a/c
Some nice work !!
sub39h
I've been meaning to flush glaze my 30 odd Lima Mk3s. Just totally lifts them to a new level. Just out of interest which wheels will you be using for them?
steve fay
I've got some Hornby ones coming as the rest of the coaches will be Hornby and the disc inserts are for Hornby MK3's
sub39h
Ok so are you replacing the bogies/boring out the axle width then?
steve fay
I'm not sure, the wheels should be here tomorrow so il have a look what needs doing. With the Replica bogies I just popped the Bachman wheels straight in & they work fine. I've given the three coach roofs a blast of black from a spray can to freshen them up. I can't decide whether to bother with curtains as I don't know if they would be visible enough ? Especially as the layout will be for watching trains go by at speed. steve fay
Masking up the coach, you can see the scratch marks on the yellow band.
sub39h
Lima make their axles shorter than everyone else. Hornby wheels will squeeze into the bogies, but they won't turn! I got a Wizard Wheels truck tuner but it doesn't seem to bore the bogies out quite enough.
steve fay
Masking removed & roof temporarily in place.
steve fay
John Lennon & Sir Stanley Matthews nearly finished. Both have new Pullman transfers and sir Stanley new names & numbers, I've removed the warning flashes on the end so these will need to be replaced. Removed a/c
Can i ask what formation these ran in? I think there were 3 first class MK3s, what else did they run with and what pulled them?
steve fay
From what I can gather there was 3 Pullmans with a restaurant either side and a Brake First Open then 4 or 5 TSO. Class 87 or 90 haulage with a MK1 full brake then later a DVT. On my layout thread the Sparks effect I found a link with a few variations of formations

steve fay
A cheeky £1 bid won me this book book off eBay, the front cover shows a Pullman service. Might be of interest.
Marcyg
I have that book, quite a lot of useful info in it. The picture on the cover is the Pullman set I'm using, I believe it's a Manchester set

steve fay
Some nice overhead warning flashes arrived today from Steve Railtec. Firstly the MK3 ends and then to replace the later yellow version on the Super BG's, A blast of dull cote to seal them. I did think about changing the data panels & C3 on the MK3's but the ends got quite dirty so a blast of dirt will cover most of it, that and the trains will be passing at speed. steve fay
Mk3 Pullmans nearing completion. They now have flush glazing, the yellow band resprayed, new Pullman crests and Sir Stanley Matthews has name & number transfer. Next job is Kadee coupling and pipes that will connect with tiny magnets. I'm still unsure on the wheels, these are still the Lima ones, I'm waiting for the disc inserts to arrive and see how they fit. I think they look so much better with no tension lock couplings sticking out beyond the bogies.
steve fay
Some of Pete Harvey's superb MK3 disc brake inserts arrived today, as I'm recovering post Op it will be a few weeks before I can fit any though
