28XX
The 1960's would be a good target.
DavidB-AU
The 1960's would be a good target. About 10 years ago there were plans to do a series set in the 1960s about a rock band called the Black Adder Five, with a drummer called Bald Rick. Not long after Blackadder Goes Forth there was some talk of a WW2 era series set in a German POW camp. Cheers David
RMweb Gold Downendian Posted August 24, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 24, 2015 Excellent, but it will be sad not to see the modern day Lord/Captain Flashheart in whatever period they choose. Neil
34theletterbetweenB&D
A shot at a 'well into the future' setting might be fun. Give the Mayall replacement a twist, use an actress who can do manic comedy. Gemma Arterton might rise to it.
RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted August 24, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 24, 2015 Sadly Nursey is no longer with us, but Miriam Margoyles (she of the devil's dumplings) is alive and well and appearing in tv series in Oz.
DavidB-AU
Miriam Margolyes was in a few times as Lady Whiteadder, Queen Victoria and Spanish Infanta. Tim McInnerny, Miranda Richardson, Helen Atkinson-Wood and Gabrielle Glaister (Bob) are also still around. Cheers David
Purley Oaks
I think the 80s would be a good target politically, but the scheming could possibly be too close to Alan B'stard MP. Mal
RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted August 25, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 25, 2015 I may be the odd one out but I think they should leave it. Blackadder goes forth finished on probably the nearest any TV show will ever come to the perfect ending. The track record of bringing old classics back to life is not great and I think it'd be sad to see the sort of thing that happened with Only Fools and Horses with older actors eeking out a few more tired formulaic lines and damaging memories of a once great show. Or a complete change of cast, as with the new Dad's Army film although that was a necessity due to most of the original cast being no longer with us. Bill Radford
Newsnight showed a clip of the unshown pilot of Blackadder - Tony Robinson might have all the original cast of the show wanting to get back together so where does that leave him? He was not the original Baldrick!
Jim Martin
God, I hope not. Not just because these things are never as good as the original; but also (mainly, even) because the last thing that Ben Elton wrote for British TV, The Wright Way, was quite literally the worst sitcom that I've seen in 30 years. rob D2
You can't replace Rik Mayall. There's no one even close

I agree Blackadder Goes Forth was pure TV gold and the ending was the work of genius, brings a tear to my eye every time. Remember Blackadder did come back as a one off in 2000 (Blackadder Back and Forth). It wasn't the best, sadly the episode's funniest moments involved Robin "Lord Flashart" Hood. I would be worried by a comeback. There have been some poor comebacks, but some that have worked. I think the returns of Open All Hours and Red Dwarf both were well done. RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted August 30, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 30, 2015 There will be two more series of Red Dwarf soon on Dave. After seeing Kryten for 4 nights last week enthusing about Indian Railways, I'm wondering if the new series will be surreal enough?
