RMweb Premium JDW Posted August 28, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 28, 2015 Morning all, Quick request for help, how do I get the body off a Lima 117? I'm not too up on 1st generation DMUs, but assumed its the samje as usual, pull the body sides apart, release clips, chassis falls out, but that doesn't seem to be happening - is the glazing holding it in? Looking between body and chassis I can't see any clips that are stopping it, though it is second hand and I'm wondering if there's glue holding it on, it has been modified. The power bogie end seems to move a bit but further along I just can't fathom. Help appreciated!
RMweb Premium JDW Posted August 28, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 28, 2015 Ah, never mind, I just realised the screws underneath are to hold the body on, I assumed they just held the seating/weight in place! Oops (Edit - Mods feel free to delete this thread!)
John Tomlinson
Ah, never mind, I just realised the screws underneath are to hold the body on, I assumed they just held the seating/weight in place! Oops (Edit - Mods feel free to delete this thread!) Before you put it back together again its worth filing down the plastic clips at the ends of the chassis that go into the slots in the coach bodyends. This can make dis-assembly much easier in future, in effect you rely mainly on the two screws in the chassis to hold it all together. A similar issue arises with the Lima 60, if anyone still has these, with the chassis clips that go into the cab fronts making dis-assembly quite a high risk activity in terms of cracking the bodyshell. RMweb Premium JDW Posted August 28, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 28, 2015 This one didn't have those, but that's a very good point John, I've had trouble with class 59/60/66 models for that reason, and have done just as you say, filed down the clips. On this one, its actually been converted into a single car class 122 with cast ends, so no end clips on the chassis to worry about.
