colney123
Just seen a derby lightweight 2 car unit on Hatton's web site, only thing that puts me off is the large gap between the units is there anyway to make this look better. cheers simon. chaz
Fit different couplings? Kadees come in a range of lengths.
colney123
Fit different couplings? Kadees come in a range of lengths. Thanks Chaz , but do they need electrical connections between them. ? simon.
Andrew F
No. It's a decoder in each vehicle job. I think these units have their interiors lit all the time if you're using DCC or at least mine does; don't know if Bachmann changed this.
RMweb Gold tetsudofan Posted September 29, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 29, 2015 I've used Roco close-couplings on mine. Keith
RMweb Premium Bernard Lamb Posted September 29, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 29, 2015 Bachmann do a shorter coupling for a more modern DMU that is shorter. Can't remember the type, probably 15 something. The catalogue will illustrate it. A Modellers Mecca type bellows connector helps as well. As it is not required to have electrical connections a straight bar of the ideal length is probably the easiest. Bernard
RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted September 29, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 29, 2015 If you use the Roco coupler heads there is a simple way to block the small amount of daylight remaining between the gangways. Just cut a piece of dark grey or black foam (springy but not so dense as to be too stiff) to fit inside one and glue a suitably sized piece of card to it so that it can slide across the other one without snagging on it. The bits you take out of those stock boxes that are sold at many exhibitions are an ideal source. You may need to experiment with the length of the foam to ensure it maintains contact but doesn't create tightness between the vehicles. John
stewartingram
A brass wire hook and loop diy job works fine. I've removed the over bright lights on mine, though I have now got all-wheel pickup hard wired. Stewart
vitalspark
Definitely Kadee..I fitted then to the Lightweight and also the 105. Two minute job and now perfect with no gap and totally reliable even on station crossovers. Cant remember the numbers..19 comes to mind but easy checked..(both were the same though as on some coaches you need to mix the Kadees to obtain the correct gap) Dave
leopardml2341
Dave, If you can recall which kadees, I be grateful if you would post the info.
Leander
I've put a number 18 on one car, Andy, and a no. 19 on the other but I think two no. 18s would work just as well. A little bit of work is also needed with the side cutters to prevent fouling on turnouts.
PenrithBeacon
I connected mine using Bill Bedford couplings from Eileens and Modellers Mecca corridor connections. Worked really well. Regards
