Guest
I don't think Honda reliabilty in Formula 1 has any influence at all on those buying a family car. It certainly doesn't matter a damn to me. Their engine reliability in the real world is legendary. My brother still drives an ancient Civic that he bought for next to nothing and says he'll drive it into the ground before buying a new car. He's been trying for 16 years now and it still won't roll over and die. Great ad. Great cars.

Simon G
Clever advert, but would it persuade anyone to go and buy a Honda product? If so, it just shows that people are persuaded by glitzy adverts more than the actual product that is being sold.

If so, it just shows that people are persuaded by glitzy adverts more than the actual product that is being sold. Mo Farah told me Quorn sausages would be tasty. Having rushed down to the supermarket on his advice, I'm obviously easily led. He lied, by the way. They're bloody 'orrible.
Tim Chambers
If Honda cars are as good as their lawn mowers, they are good! We purchased a very ancient looking Honda mower from the vendors when we moved in 21 years ago, it lasted another 16 years and was only replaced (with another Honda) when it quite literally fell apart. Not bad Eh?
RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted October 6, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 6, 2015 There is a chap near us who drives a Honda NSX as an everyday car. Admittedly it is one of the last ones but it is still about a decade old and he assures me it is no more painful to run than a regular family car (fuel bill excepted) and is utterly reliable. I'm not sure you'd say the same about many of its contemporary super cars.
Steve K
Honda have always made great adverts, and everyone I know who's had one says that they make great cars, too. I've never owned one, but I'm seriously considering an S2000 for my next car. As for the adverts, I've got a DVD somewhere of the original "cog" advert (which also shows some of the times that it didn't work when they were setting it up!), which raised the bar for clever advertising to new levels. Steve K
I've just re-watched that old "cog" advert, and it's as much a joy now as it was then: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ve4M4UsJQo
ParkeNd
Even my little 1.2 Jazz comes with variable valve timing and dual cam profiles. I'm only 69 myself so not quite old enough to qualify for a Honda Jazz. But they do start every time apparently so deserved of their popularity. I managed to get two builders bags of garden rubbish in the back of ours. Only failed to start once so far and that was the battery's fault. Only problem with the new Civic though is the handbrake is on the passenger side Honda always seem to come up something a bit different and special in the ad department and this is no exception, but I'm not sure I want to take mine near the coast now. Horsetan
Clever advert, but would it persuade anyone to go and buy a Honda product? If so, it just shows that people are persuaded by glitzy adverts more than the actual product that is being sold.I had a Honda Accord 5-door, 1.8ltr, as a courtesy car for a couple of weeks back in 2000. Very light to steer, never put a foot wrong and therefore utterly forgettable. Air-conditioning reached deep-freeze levels. Honda used to be the OAPs' car of choice down here - mostly Civics, and Cornes Motors the local Honda dealer in West Hampstead did a roaring trade as a result. Their old showroom backed onto Hampstead Cemetery, which I thought was a nice touch.

RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted May 14, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 14, 2016 I'm only 69 myself so not quite old enough to qualify for a Honda Jazz. But they do start every time apparently so deserved of their popularity. I think the correct progression is Peugeot 207SW (my current chariot, picked because it's the exact size I need at present) to Honda Jazz (too small), then Citroen Berlingo (too van-ish). A mate of mine (63) quite likes the latter but his (younger) missus insists he can't have one until he's 80......... If my knees hold out, I'm going for an MX5 (with a tow bar) next. RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted May 15, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 15, 2016 Honda make some superbly engineered cars and their engines are outstanding. Unfortunately they committed the cardinal error of not being German which handicaps their image somewhat here (if you put the right German label on a bucket load of steaming turds What Car would still give it a glowing review) but for those not in thrall to certain badges they have always been, and still are, an excellent choice. Funnily enough, the OAP image seems to be a British thing, they do not have the same image in other markets.

Signaller69
Had several used Honda's over the past 15 or so years, usually two of each, though not at the same time, ie 2 Preludes (1 with the novel 4 wheel steering which cornered a dream), 2 Civics and 2 Accords. I have held onto my 3L V6 Accord Coupe as I love it to bits (a hobby car if you like), though my everyday driver is an FRV which is typically Honda; clever design, quirky but reliable. Its a 6 seater, seats fold down to make a bed if needed (exhibition managers please don't assume I will sleep in my car. . . :-) ) and most importantly a big load carrying area as the rear seats fold flat to the level of the boot as those on the Jazz do. Always found them excellent cars.
