Tigger
I am looking to fit sound in to the first tender of my twin tender Hornby Bittern This tender has an 8 Pin decoder socket and the speaker location moulded as part of the chassis, under the metal weight. Mounting the decoder will not be a problem but finding a suitable speaker that will give a good sound and fit in the location under the weight is proving a little more of a challenge Can anyone suggest a speaker that will fit and give a good quality sound? sharpshooter
Hi there, I have worked on a few regular A4's with 21 pin decoders and the standard Hornby X9999 (28mm I think) speaker fits nicely facing down in the receptacle under the weight and is usually held in place with a bit of black-tack....A bit of insulation tape over the speaker contacts prevents any accidental shorting and once the tender top is back on, these sound great. Hope this helps Rich
Tigger
Thanks Rich, I'll get that on order
sharpshooter
I assume your chip will be a Loksound 4, as I am sure the Hornby X9999 is 4 Ohm, but worth checking before you order anything. I think Zimo require 8 Ohm speakers if you are going down that route. Regards Rich

Regards Rich Thanks again Rich Yes it is a Loksound 4 so the 4 Ohm will be fine

FSB
can't understand why people put speakers in tenders. Tenders did not chuff! In the A4 there is plenty of space to put speakers in the loco where arguably it (they) should be. I have successfully installed a Loksound micro decoder with 2 sugar cube type speakers wired in parallel into a Hornby A4. Try it - it is a relatively simple job and sounds superior to tender-mounted speakers. FSB
