RMweb Gold highpeakman Posted November 9, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 9, 2015 I am currently building a model of a small station (really just a platform and small shelter) loosely based on the wooden platform structures built by the LNWR on the Buxton to Ashbourne line and Buxton to Whaley Bridge (inc Dove Holes, etc). It will be based on an late 50s/early 60s period. I have a lot of books on these lines which contain B&W pictures showing the structures used but the problem is the colours used at this time and which I obviously can't be sure off. Many of the wooden platform buildings shown have a dark lower half colour and light upper colour. Was this a BR maroon and cream combination? One thing is clear and that is a lack of consistency as on some stations it appears the buildings are plain single colour - probably white? - and do not use the lower dark half The fence palings also vary with most seeming to be white (as per LNWR) but some stations seem to have dark colours used - probably brown? Presumably later replacement fencing? Do the colours vary with time period? It looks as if the LMS left the LNWR schemes alone but did BR change things slowly over time? If anyone can clarify I would be grateful. Thanks. Don
RMweb Gold highpeakman Posted November 12, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 12, 2015 Further research found this very useful site. http://www.stationcolours.info/index.php?p=1_2_LMS Looks like it might help answer questions about colours for many places/regions.
