LlandudnoJunction
I am wondering if anyone has experience in getting a glass modern building effect. I have had a go with some clear plastic but it doesn't look good. I am trying to create a building which is all glass bit like the gherkin / shard in London. Any advice or help would be good. Chubber
Well, I looked up 'Ultra Modern Buildings' in my favourite book, and I assure you the building ideas below were 'ultra modern' in 1939..... From J Ahern Miniature Building Construction. Copyright CV Russell and E Fells. Reproduced with their kind permissions. Still, there might be an idea or two to develop, Good luck Doug
Hesperus
Have you applied something to tint the glass? Most modern buildings have tinted glass of some form or other, I suppose that window tinting film for cars is the easiest way to replicate it unless you find a source of pre-tinted clear plastic. davepallant
Tamiya do Clear Green and Clear Blue acrylic paints which colour the clear plastic windows in kits quite well. I've just tinted the windows in a Kibri station kit. I used both because I wanted a blue/green tint. I thinned the paint a lot and sprayed it and the result looks pretty good. allan downes
I've never constructed all glass modern buildings before but I'm sure I would be looking at real tinted glass cut to size in a glaziers. Once the glass shell has been glued together - superglue? - the outside framing and panel work could then be planted on. I can remember however building signal boxes in a similar method - all clear plastic box and everything, boarding, window frames etc, planted on top. Just a thought. Cheers. Chubber
At least one 'superglue ' maker (Loctite?) make a glue specifically for cementing glass. Doug
