Gloucester Road
So might not be the most environmentally friendly way to see layouts, but several hours and several hundred miles of driving over the last 2 days and we saw 10 layouts. In typical American fashion some are huge, basement filling, mindblowing examples of layouts that never leave home. Might take some time to process the photos so Ill put in separate updates First up is Boston and Maine (HO) Buit by Tom Oxnard and featured in Model Railroader, Tom is a recognized Master at scenery and building structures. Quite a lot of his focal structures are scratchbuilt. He also does an unbelievable job at using photos to deepen his layout.
Gloucester Road
Central Maine and Aroostook (n) Built by John Newick. This is a three level (with a huge complicated helix in a separate room) N scale layout that has taken 10 years to get to this point, scenery was started this year and is coming along niclely. It is all computer controlled and automated on the mainlines with the ability to plug in and take control of the train for action in the yards and shunting. It sits on three shelves and goes around three outside walls of his attic and a central three layer island.
Gloucester Road
Next is Montana Rail Link (n) Done by Ernie Poole and featured in Model Railroader back in 2009. A nice sized layout in his basement, it is essentially 2 ovals folded on themselves with a branch line along one wall for the Inter modal yard. He was running nice long trains, 18+ cars in length. There was lots of nice little features: cars with working lights, trains with flashing FREDS, lit buidings. It all had a nice cohesive feel and common colour pallet
