RMweb Premium mezzoman253 Posted January 25, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 25, 2016 9/10 for me and I've only been once for a 3 week holiday in 2002! To be fair, some of the terms are used over here too. Rob
Horsetan
9/10 for me and I've only been once for a 3 week holiday in 2002! Same here. That's what a month staying with DougN and his Missus does to you
Allegheny1600
8/10 for me and I'm only a Pom! Never been there, not likely to as the missus don't like the creepy crawlies. Bummer!
RMweb Premium mezzoman253 Posted January 25, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 25, 2016 8/10 for me and I'm only a Pom! Never been there, not likely to as the missus don't like the creepy crawlies. Bummer! Creepy crawlies aren't my favourites either, nor snakes, sharks, croc's, did I leave any out? But if you get the chance to go, GO! It's a fantastic country and the people are really friendly, even to Pom's. Rob

Arthur
Same as Apollo, 8/10, and the same ones wrong. Should really have worked out 'finch pinchers'. Never, yet, been to Oz though we did have kangaroo steaks a couple of weeks back

Old Tearaway
10 out of 10..... probally from watching all those Paul Hogan shows on Channel 4 back here in England. One interesting fact about Aussie wildlife..... Australia is home to all of the top 11 deadly snakes in the world (no anti-venom), both the world's deadliest spiders and a host of other creatures that can either give a nasty bite, sting, spray, spit, etc. Meanwhile in New Zealand they just have a lot of sheep..... Bon Accord
9/10, no doubt from all that time spent on the Aussie coast. In terms of common Aussie slang, where are the stock and trade items like "pommie c****", "dinkum", "suckhole", "smoko" etc?

MarcD
I had a good look at the slang dictionary which was a link there are a lot missing from the list. Where were "dry as a nun's" (thirsty), "floating on mi back teeth" (need a Pee), "she'll be right, No worries", "Wife Beater" (beer over 5%), "Thunder box" (Loo) or my particular favourite "wobbeler" a doggy red wine that comes in a box and is a cross between unleaded and bad claret. Just name a few

DougN
It's weird I'm 4th generation, never heard of finch pincher either. No wucca's Now ask a Aussie what bathers are that will get multiple answers depending on the state generally. Any thing from cosie's, bathers, swimmers, trunks."... Now remember Kev we all use shortenings of names unless it is already short Tim becomes Timbo... Another one is chateau de cardboard ( wondering if "No wucca's" is perplexing any one... RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 26, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 26, 2016 7/10 - clearly I watched the wrong channel on morning tv before going to work every morning as there were a lot on there which weren't at all like those, let alone seemingly working in select circles

A quick search on Google suggests that a lot are failing on this question. Google finds this too, which is what would occur to me. http://businessnewsusa.org/new-york/jfk-airport-finch-pincher-6-months-prison-article-1.1318915
PatB
10/10 for me so I won't be stripped of my citizenship just yet . The whole spider thing is rubbish. Dunno about the funnel-web, but the legendary redback is about as lethal as a European wasp. ie unpleasant but won't kill you unless you're seriously unlucky. Nobody's been seriously unlucky since ~1954. The snakes, on the other hand.... But the one to be really scared of is roadhouse food .
