Poor Old Bruce
Could be black, could be Gulf Red, could be Post Office Red, could be Olive Green depends what date and usage. Richard
Glorious NSE
Or yellow could be an option later on... Here's a similar one in olive with yellow ends... http://ukrailrolling.../p26103000.html
Adam
Or yellow could be an option later on... Here's a similar one in olive with yellow ends... http://ukrailrolling.../p26103000.html It is associated with a crane however, and I can't recall seeing pitures of a yellow van in other contexts. Darren's period is a bit earlier I think (though he hasn't said to be fair), but probably black or Olive - details will be in the Gould book on SR NPCCS. Ian G
Black or olive would be the norm, looking through departmentals.com most vans where never repainted from there original colours. Ian G

Would have thought most such tool vans would be associated with a specific bit of kit (not neccesarily a crane) though Adam. Pretty sure I can recall full yellow ones as well, that one was just one i'd shot myself.

True enough Martyn, but most seem to have gone into Stores use with Mechanical (rather than Civil) engineers if Paul Bartlett's gallery is anything to go by - what the Western Region called 'Enparts' I think: http://www.gallery6801.fotopic.net/c1399712.html Adam
Glorious NSE
Ah, but "Stores" or "Enparts" van's aren't the same thing as a Staff & Tool van though... PS - Found the yellow one (I had a go at modelling this one once) - PMV not a CCT though. http://www.gallery6801.fotopic.net/p46280146.html

Poor Old Bruce
1955-60 would most likely be black, whatever its departmental usage. Richard

All the best Darren Red was the livery for breakdown trains, not for PW trains, which would have been black for the period you are asking about (if they were repainted for the tool van use) Paul York

Some departmental vehicles were gulf red from some time in the '60s depending on the owing department. Richard
