SRman
The model is looking good. However, I'm never convinced by painted or printed lights. I have, on a couple of models, drilled out the lights and treated them in one of two ways: 1. filled the holes with Krystal Klear (a sort of PVA that dries clear for glazing purposes), then painted the backs of the lights once dry. 2. filled the holes with actual light tower LEDs but simply not wired up. The latter allows for future working lights and actually looks better than method 1. Some models don't really allow for the room for method 2, though. Either method looks better (IMHO) than the painted lights. Both of these Bratchell units illustrate what I have done; neither is wired up at the moment but I intend to do them later. I will have to get the filler out and redo the right-hand cluster on the 319 as it is slightly crooked at the moment - my drilling was less than perfect! The class 455 uses an extra technique that would also work well on the 313-315 and 507/508 units, namely. I have used brass tube sections to create the raised light surrounds. I chose tubing with an internal diameter that matched the LED tower diameter. While plastic tube would be easier to work with, I feel the wall thickness would be greater than the brass thickness and would need drilling out to get a reasonable appearance.I should add that the unlit LED colours show up better than the photo suggests. Marc d
Hi thanks, I think I'll try the 1st method you mentioned filling the holes with a glazing glue and paint the back Cheers
Marc d
Got some pics this morning. Made a baseboard display for it a couple of months ago. Model still isn't finished, need to sort handrails, redo the lights properly and I'm struggling to get the coaches to sit right
GordonC
the first 2 coaches look fine, its just that back one thats sitting a bit odd on the inner corridor connection end. Is there something odd about how the body is sat on that bogie?
Marc d
Yeah it's the way the body is mounted on the chassis. Flimsy plastic unfortunately. I'll look into sorting it at some point
