Stately procession on Thames below Tower Bridge 17/04/2016

We spent this weekend in London, culminating in a trip from London Eye to the O2 and back by boat. On the way back, as we approached Southwark, we encountered what I can only describe as a procession of oar-propelled vessels. The first was a rather spectacular red and gold 'Royal Barge' with liveried rowers and personages on the rear section. This was followed by a selection of vessels with 4 or 8 people rowing. Some were in costume, with long 'frock coats'; others were less formally, or uniformally, attired. There seemed to be a couple of PLA vessels keeping an eye on things. In total, we passed about thirty or so vessels. Does anyone on here have any inkling what might have been happening?

Or some sort of rehearsal for Mrs. Queen's 90th birthday bash?

Interesting choice of phrase. When the Prince of Wales visited Paupa New Guinea in 2012, he introduced himself in Tok Pisin as "nambawan pikinini bilong misis kwin".

Cheers

David
