davetheroad
I have some Dapol LMS coach kits and I wish to replace the old style coupler with something more modern that will take a non magnetic drop hook. Is there a straightforward way of doing this?
JeremyC
Hornby R8099 couplings are a staight swop for these and anything else using the old Airfix [RTR] coupling mount. http://www.ehattons.com/27126/Hornby_R8099_Coupling_bar_assemblies_Pack_10_/StockDetail.aspx Jeremy
RMweb Premium Silver Sidelines Posted April 30, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 30, 2016 Hello Dave I am struggling to think of 'mainstream' couplings with nonmagnetic drop hooks. I can only think of the old Peco Nylon couplings or the modern Roco/Hornby R8220 types. For my old 'Airfix' type stock I have used two approaches. The first is a cheat - on the Airfix/Dapol/Hornby B set I have used a fixed coupling bar. Where the stock is not to be permanently coupled I have brought the vehicles closer together using modified Bachmann Mini (Long) couplings. As a one off exercise I have also fitted a Hornby R8220 coupling to the Hornby twelve wheel restaurant car - it is not an elegant solution but one born out of necessity. Some food for thought? BlackRat
The new small tension locks tend to be a mixed bag, with some magnetic, and some not, pot luck I'm afraid.
davetheroad
I am trying out the Brian Kirby magnetic uncoupling system and although Bachmann drop hooks are non magnetic I need replacements for Hornby and Dapol ones. The 'new' Dapol couplings have drop hooks which appear identical to Bachmann ones and replacements for Hornby are available from PH designs. Hopefully the R8099 drop hooks are the same as the PH design Hornby version.
