stannyblade
Wanting to build the north light engine shed but cant decide on Scalescenes or the Smart model one. Has anybody built them? How easy are they to build? Post your pictures as well please. Thanks Gav
jonny777
I have them, but haven't built them yet, I'm afraid. My intention was to have both of them together, in an effort to make my engine shed a little more unique in character. Have one as an original and another as a slightly newer extension and maybe swap the roof items around a bit. I think it was called kitbashing in the past. Get them both, Gavin. After all they are only a fiver, and if you make mistakes you can always print out another sheet and try again.
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted May 7, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 7, 2016 If you have not tried Scalescenes before have a go at the free coal merchant's office to get a feel of these kits. You have more choice with the Scalescene one: textures, window or no window sides. But as jonny777 says give them both a go at a fiver each. You could always make a factory out of the other one. I have made scalescenes ones before and found them very easy to follow and also very good quality.
RMweb Gold ianLMS Posted May 12, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 12, 2016 Scalescenes are excellent models - good greyboard card (1mm & 2mm thick is ideal for 4mm scale), very sharp knife, good printer and lots of Pritt Stix is required. I have built several of their kits (shops, terraced houses, cottages, church, farmhouse/barn) but not the engine shed. I decided to scratchbuild mine but using Scalescenes as the template to give me dimensions etc. You can the pics under the "Jencaster" thread in "Layout Topics". Ian Abel
I've created a Scalescenes version, 4-road and twice the length, it's very expandable/customizable. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/82193-millpond-central-a-brsr-steam-era-layout/page-2&do=findComment&comment=1473704 I'm a great fan of Scalescenes products have made many of them and really enjoy how well they are designed and go together. Since the pictures were taken I've added interior LED lighting, still have some exterior wall mount lights to add. Here's a couple more shots...
