NYMR branchline gala

I've just noticed the Pickering end one has had its gutters put back to original, needs to loose its headlights and roof pods

Be nice, but its on loan from Butterley so there's not much we can do about it.

Oh,I've just realised it's not the NYMR one.

Are you involved with that?

680?  I am indeed, I think they're just waiting for various committees to get their fingers out so it can have the work done and be put back inot traffic eventually.

I was involved with the one on the North Norfolk, I chose it from shoeburyness .

Kev yeoman, spoke to me quite a bit when you got yours.

I know a few people that were involved with yours, like kev,Gordon and JJ but I don't think the latter two go anymore

Not sure what happened to JJ but Gordon has a family now which kind of restricted his playing trains a bit!  Last time I saw the NNR one it was in Rail Blue and looking truly awesome.

I work with JJ and Gordon though they are at York depot, I keep in touch with them both and socialise with them when I get up North.

The NNR one was bought to convert to a visual replica of the 79xxx ones which ran round here, they had high level jumpers. The blue livery was a quick job to protect it.

Unfortunately since that time the railway has had on loan a wreck from the NRM which has used a lot of parts from the NNR one.

I looks like the NNR one may be back soon as the new c and w boss is a big DMU man.

I was a volunteer on the NYMR from 79 to 85 I still know a few people up there

I was there on Friday too, and had a good time enjoying the nostalgic springy with creaks ride of the restored GNR/LNER carriage train to Grosmont, and the very sure footed traction of the Q6 up the 1 in 49 out of Grosmont returning to Pickering. (We had earlier watched the Black 5 running that day achieve much slipping exiting Grosmont, the driver having to manage the loco very carefully on the damp rails.) Much fun and a consistently warm welcome from all working the line, also very good hot chocolate at Pickering by my wife's report.

It't not on loan from Butterley but from its private owner who only used Butterley for a contract restoration/storage.

I watched an episode of salvage hunters the other day and the NYMR DMU could be seen at Grosmont, that looks a bit sorry for itself.

Mind the shed never seems to get any decent sun especially in the winter. I was involved with restoring 24061 in the late 90s and that was always soaking in the winter

Something like 2 hours maximum for 4 months of the year, its not too bad the rest of the time.

At the time I was helping on that loco and looking after 5207 on the north Norfolk it was amazing how little moisture problems that suffered compared to its northern cousin, mind being in a coastal atmosphere that has corroded pretty badly over the years although nowadays there is no diesel group on the railway

the 2 power cars are 'DAISY' which has been hired in by the NYMR. It is privately owned.

The centre car is the NYMR vehicle, the NYMR power cars are stored pending bodywork overhaul, now they are a mess!

Daisy was painted at Butterley over 5 years ago, with the roof pods and marker lights retained at the owners request, it was then stored in a tree lined cutting for a prolonged time while a new home was found, hence the roof needs a clean.

The daisy 'stickers' aren't great quality, but are replicas of what were added when in BR service, again exactly what the owner wanted.
