Darren,

If its the book by E Lyons, then page 101 has Weymouth. Opened 1885 Closed July 1967. It has  a photo of Weymouth taken in 1921 and a plan, loco allocations and dimensions

Bare in mind that there are several versions of the book. I have the 1837-1947 Revised Edition, where it only has an 1875 track plan of Weymouth (p204) and no pics.

You have the book, then you will have noted the paragraph on page 2 that notes the 1837 - 1947 book is a 'companion' volume to the 1947 book.

The first volume deals with all the GW loco sheds, history outline and other details, in existence in December 1947 into nationalisation. The second volume deals with all the others that existed before.

Indeed, hence why I was alerting Darren to the fact there are two different versions. :)

Unfortunately it doesn't include all the sheds. I bought it in the hope that Barnstaple would be in there as I've found very little info on the shed there. My edition does not include it, I'd be interested to know if it was included in the first edition.

Hi Ric,

Yes, the 1947 version has Barnstable, page 112. Opened 1873, closed January 1951

" A timber shed with a slated roof, the timber walls resting on a 2ft high dwarf brick wall "

Here you go Barnstaple shed, in 1905, if you need any more info i have a lot of photo's and a few good track plans.

Thanks for the confirmation Peter, I was a little hesitant about getting the other edition without checking first. That is the correct plan Peter, I have it on a 1939 OS map and it has disappeared by the 1957 map, that was all the information I had dug up so far. I was hoping there might be some pics in there as I have yet to find any of it, but the description you have provided is a good start. Sorry Darren I should have been more specific and stated Barnstaple (Victoria Road), not the LSWR Barnstaple Town.

Hi Ric,

There is 1 photo on page 112, probably taken from the point near the head shunt to the left of the shed. It clearly shows the weatherboard construction on top of the brick wall.

I remember reading an article on Victoria Road in the Great Western Railway Journal. The online index suggests it would have been issue 42: http://www.gwrjournal.com/issue.php?s=42

I'm afraid I have no recollection now of the details in the article (and my copy of the journal is in storage at the moment), so I don't know if it would be any help, (and you may well have already seen it anyway).
