Pouparts Junction

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me the year of this film, my guess is about 1965, with a mixture of yellow fronts and not. I love the busy atmosphere, hard to recreate but I'm having a go!

I think we have seen this before. Yes, 1964 or 65. No sign of the then-new Cig/Big units on the Central. Probably taken late afternoon, as there are plenty of Sub units coming up the fast line on the Central side, implying ECS from Selhurst, Streatham Hill etc to Victoria for evening peak workings. Similarly there is a headcode 19 Sub train on the Up SW Main Local, which is an Epsom service, again not an off-peak train.

The Cor units on both sides were heading into their final days of mainline service. I think the last Cor working timetabled to Victoria was the 08.40 from Horsham via Dorking, which lasted until about 1972.

Pouparts Junction (on the far left in the film), then a double junction, now is much simplifed with single leads, having been rationalised as part of the Victoria MAS scheme in the early 80s. A lot of old ironwork was removed at the time in the Longhedge - Stewarts Lane area.

In olden times Farmer Poupart had fruit trees in the area, and his jam was popular, we are told.

My wife is trying to sell a cabin at Parc Mayenne, near Lassay les Chateaux, jointly owned with her ex.

That must be difficult in an area with such low prices for houses. Mayenne ideal for a railway modeller with lots of large outbuildings suitable for a large mainline layout.

I know Lassay not far at all, I have a barn I converted originally for guests, now taken over by model railway on ground floor.
