Marc d
Hi just wondering what are the best mk2 coaches to use for a Drs livery respray? Was thinking Hornby Virgin coaches as I wouldn't need to pair the roof. Also what colour are the lighter blue doors? I can get the darker blue paint no problem Thanks Marc
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted June 26, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 26, 2016 I'm currently painting 3 coaches into DRS colours, for the Anglia short set. After a tip from Mick ( Newbryford ) I've used Revell 50 for the doors. Pic of progress so far. The coaches I've used are Hornby, 2x R4610A, & R4612. There are issues with using these (underframe detail etc) but the bodies look right to me. More pics on my workbench thread HTH Cheers, Phil.
knitpick
I guess this might not be much help, but. . . Are the DRS coaches Mk2Ds or Mk2Es / 2Fs? I ask the question as from memory the MK2D 2nd class (OK Standard these days) had both the toilets on the same side. Whereas the Mk2E and 2F Standard class had the toilets diagonally opposite. As a result, I believe the roof details may also be subtly different. Addendum . looking at my Platform 5 2016 edition Locos & Coaching stock - they would seem to be Mk2Fs. Thus answering my own question and Marc's

Marc d
That's awesome thanks very much. I bought an airfix brake coach painted in drs livery last night off Ebay so just need to do two trailer coaches Thanks
knitpick
Sorry Marc, the Airfix models were Mk2Ds. Phil's pictures clearly show Mk2E / Mk2F toilet arrangement. You need to get the Lima bodies for the correct toilet window arrangement.
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted June 27, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 27, 2016 This is the other side of the brake coach I'm doing. The window arrangement of all the donor coaches I'm using match my pics of the prototype, on both sides. Cheers, Phil.
Marc d
That's great thanks very much. What colour are you using for the stripe at the bottom of the roof? Looks more orange than red unless they're faded lol Thanks again
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted July 10, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 10, 2016 The stripe is definitely Orange ! Because the rainstrip is proud of the adjacent area, I've used an Orange paint marker, mine is a 'edding 751'. HTH Cheers, Phil. PS Pics of my finished coaches are on my workbench thread. Marc d
Thanks Phil. Been looking at either rail match orange or humbrol rail colour orange. I'm planning to paint it on with a fine brush after masking off the blue and leaving the masking tape on the roof. Your coaches are looking really good
