strangelygreen
I broke my own rule and bought a loco on ebay! Idiot. This Dapol Brit was described 'as new'. On track at low speed it runs very jerkily. It moves (about 3 inches) then stops, moves then stops, move then.... you get the picture. At higher speeds it moves (about 5 inches) then very noticeably hesitates, then moves, then hesitates, then moves, then... With the drive shaft disconnected the motor runs very sweetly. Any ideas anyone? I will send it back if I have to but I'd rather fix it if I can.
RMweb Premium ELTEL Posted July 7, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 7, 2016 The starting points should be. 1. Check cleanliness of the wheels. 2. Electrical pickups on the wheels 3. If it's DCC take the chip and replace with analog blanking plate 4. If it works on analog then it's likely to be the chip 5. Connect wires directly to motor if it works ok re check pickups There's a few ideas Terry
strangelygreen
Found the problem. I've had a closer look at the loco and the problem is down to a loose axle bolt in the front driving wheel on the right side of the loco. This loose bolt is sticking out and fouling the connecting rod. The rod has become bent as a consequence. I have tightened the bolt (with tweezers) and straightened the rod as best I can and the loco now runs OK.
