Signaller69
I know there are a fair few Sottish Highland layouts out there so would there be any call for one of the photographic backscene manufacturers (Gaugemaster spring to mind) consider doing a suitably mountainous one? Or does anyone know of an already available product? I have seen some European Aline style ones but these usually are TOO mountainous or have Alpine chalets etc on them? Thoughts anyone? ben pez
Im sure art printers already sell one, just look at their website. If not they can make you one up from photographs if you can get to the location. Cheers Ben

Cheers Ben Thanks Ben, yes I was hoping to get up to Scotland with my camera this summer but can't currently justify the cost (from Wales). Likewise I think a bespoke backscene will cost more than I can justify too, but will look into it. Just thought a lot of current backscenes are too "samey" and lacking in a mountainous look. johnarcher
You could look here, I think they're American and more expensive than most, but nos 043-5 seem relevant http://www.backdropjunction.com/europeanscenes.html

There are some nice scenes there, though most of the hilly ones are taken from high up looking down, my layout is a quayside so would look odd unfortunately, however there are a couple which may be usable. Not cheap as you say but much cheaper than going and taking photos myself! $35 postage to UK is painful though! Living about 40 miles from Snowdonia I suppose if I select the location carefully I may be able to get a close match for a coastal hills with distant mountains look, then just a case of getting it printed. . . :-)

I use it on my West Highland layout where I feel it does a good job. They also have several mountainous scenes from Canada.

Thanks Alf, yes I think some of the lD backscenes look useful, mainly the Forest Hills and Llanberis scenes, more food for thought. Interestingly a couple in that range look similar if not identical to the one I currently have, formerly marketed by International Models who seem to have ceased trading. Quarryscapes
You could always hire me in my photographic capacity and I'll create you a distant Eryri type scene with ease - far better than the wonky poorly stitched panoramas on offer from over the pond above! Yardman
Is this the kind of thing you mean?
Signaller69
Is this the kind of thing you mean? Yes that looks very effective, although probably not quite as high, and for my specific need more of a close up steep woodland effect. Nice work! Nice work. Thanks Signaller69, well basically take some photographs, that scene is made up of five photographs that were taken with the camera on a tripod, panning round each picture slightly overlapping the previous one. I was lucky with the clear blue sky. Then stitched together in a photo editing program (Photoshop in my case) and printed out on a roll of photographic paper. Not a cheap way of doing it, but much more effective than most of these commercial backgrounds and an easy way of doing it if you are not an artist, which I’m not. Rammstein2609
I can give another thumbs up for Art Printers ID Backscenes. I used two packs (sorry can't remember which numbers!) and attached them with some spray mount straight onto my backscene. With some clever lighting, you can make the sky pop out a bit better too. On another note, I actually ordered my prints from a retailer and I found one of the packs contained the wrong section which wouldn't match anything I had. I emailed the retailer who then emailed Art Printers and they sent out a brand new pack very quickly and free of charge so you can't go wrong. I have no connection other than being a happy customer. ben pez
I can personally vouch for john at art printers. Very helpful chap, and the bespoke ones i was after were priced the same as the off the shelf ones,as i was wanting them the same size. Cheers Ben
