RMweb Premium Ian J. Posted July 19, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 19, 2016 A bit of an odd one this. Not railway related which is why I've put it in Wheeltappers. A friend of mine collects SW replicas, and has a third scale replica of a Stormtrooper blaster. It came with a stand with two supports to hold the gun up. Unfortunately one of the supports has broken and the model can no longer sit on it. What he would like to do is get a replacement, but I gather that the company that made them has now ceased trading. So what he needs is some kind of similar 'stanchion' for it: The stanchions are made of (moulded from) a clear plastic, are approximately 2mm thick, and about 2cm wide by 4-5cm tall. Is there any kind of acetate or perspex available in 2mm thick sheets which could be successfully cut with a sharp knife to 'replicate' the stanchions of the original stand? RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted July 19, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 19, 2016 Well you can get 4x2 sheets in DIY shops but you'll really need to cut with a razor saw, as they tend to be brittle and crack, then polish up the edges with increasingly fine emery paper followed by brasso to get the polished edge. Try looking for old Perspex point of sale holders, big stores often have a load of broken ones if you see them out on the shop floor and then you'd only need to polish the top and rear as you could use one of the finished edges at the front. RMweb Premium kevinlms Posted July 19, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 19, 2016 Can't you just ask for one from the Replicator. Just like Tea, Earl Grey! Edit to add the inevitable! Ooops, that was stupid of me, mixing up with Star Trek.

RMweb Gold unravelled Posted July 19, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 19, 2016 Why not a repair, if the support isn't too badly smashed. With the right cement (tensol?), the join can be very neat. An alternative solution would be to lasercut a replacement. If the original is available to scan, it shouldn't be too hard to draw up a cutting file. This would probably require less polishing than hand cutting it. Have you checked to see if such a thing is already made? Someone else may well have had the same problem, and produced one. hth Dave

I did a Google search and found a forum with a thread about display stands, and that had links to laser cut suppliers. Hopefully that will help out and my friend can take it from here. Ozexpatriate
Can't you just ask for one from the Replicator. Just like Tea, Earl Grey! Just so long as you don't try to use the Nutrimatic Drinks Dispenser, another fine product from the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation. Share and Enjoy! And don't confuse astromech droids with cyborgs or clones with replicants.
