tractor_37260
The 2 x Bachmann 47's I purchased have both run superbly straight out of the box. On removing a bogie frame, It appears Bachmann are now using helical cut gears in the bogie drive cogs. Perhaps this has helped to give the smoother & quieter running ? Seem to recall some blurb about Vi using this option when they first appeared on the market ? K
craigwelsh
Has it improved the rocking around the middle axle at all if the frames have a small amount of banana profile to them? I filed the slots down on my early release but the gears were in the way before the middle axle had retracted enough to stop the rocking.

Hi Craig It would appear, at least on the 2 versions I have of Bach latest 47's, that there are no issues with "banana" frames causing the bogie to rock on the centre axle. All 3 axles/wheel treads per bogie appear to be in alignment. Filing down the centre axle bearing slots did cure my noisy 37's. There was just enough slack/play in the gear meshing to allow the the middle axles to retract/move up slightly. Possibly the combination of "straight" bogie frames + the revised "helical" cut cogs lead to much quieter and smoother running straight out of the box. The next batch of 37's will hopefully also be so fitted. K
