RMweb Premium Ian J. Posted July 27, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 27, 2016 A question: Why do batteries slow down in taking in charge when they are becoming full, say once they are over 80%?
RMweb Gold 57xx Posted July 27, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 27, 2016 Depends what sort of battery you are talking about and the type of charger.
jonny777
Because the potential difference across the battery terminals lessens as the charge continues. I believe that certain chargers are fitted with a device that detects this and at a certain level (80%) switches to a low (trickle) charge for safety reasons. As you can tell, I am not an electrician.
RMweb Gold BoD Posted July 27, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 27, 2016 I'm sure there are rules, laws and maybe even some diagrams to explain this but isn't it down to the fact that the fuller they get the harder it is to push more in. But like blowing up an air bed really.

Butler Henderson
If you have not already got one worth investing in a charger that charges each battery individually such as this one . Lidl also have one on sale from Monday which seems to do them individually if I have read its details right
