Mark 2c (B)FK interior

Hi all,

I'm trying to finish a model of a mk2c BFK, but have a couple of questions...

What colour were the compartment doors?  Were there curtains on the corridor side of the compartment?  And was there a mirror or artwork on the wall above the seats?

For those interested, I know that the seats had black leather or imitation leather arm and headrests (often with a white extra cushion), with a deep orange (almost red) striped moquette on the cushions, to which the curtains were a similar colour.  The general panelling was off-white formica or similar material.

Cheers

Rich

i think the mk2c would have been fairly similar to the mk2a - i.e. aluminium/glass compartment partitions. i think there were pull-down blinds for the windows/sliding door leading to the corridor.

I don't think i've ever seen any mk2s with pictures above the seats, just centrally mounted mirrors (don't know what length though)

there are some pics of a mk2a BFK 17079 in this Flickr album:

i think the major differences inside with a mk2c would be a lower, flat ceiling and wider corner-mounted entrance doors

W17073 would sound about right and it does look like mirrors above the seats. I must admit I thought there was one with some abstract artwork above the seats and that would be the obvious place and coach where I'd have seen it. I thought the others in that set were TSOs so it wouldn't have been in them.

I think the artwork was a later addition, possibly for the NSE Solent and Sarum sets (looks like Stonehenge on the picture). In the 1970s there would have been full length mirrors and black/charcoal moquette as seen here http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/cw/moquette/charcoal_16210_1014.jpg . I seem to remember black moquette with gold seams running through it but that may have been a later moquette from the early 1980s. BR Mark 2 Coaches by Harris on page 58 has a photo of a Mk2B first compartment and on page 70 has a photo of a Mk2D first compartment. They are virtually identical apart from the different windows and the ceiling heights, both show the black/charcoal moquette. Also the wall panelling would have been wood veneer originally as well.

Thanks for the help all, definitely not curtains on the compartment side then, and I think I've got the colours on the rest now.  I'm modelling a 1980s coach (see here), and from the source images I can see the seats clearly enough to know it has the same moquette and seat style as in Gordon C's image, though the headrest appears to be leather rather than fabric.

Cheers!

That would fit. NSE commissioned an artist called Edward Pond to produce masses of region-specific artwork (he'd earlier worked for BR, especially in designs for buffet cars).

On the 442s, all the artwork in 1st class is signed Edward Pond, that in 2nd class "Eddy Pond".

That was the case on the Thameslink 319s too.

My memories of Mk2 corridor stock was of mirrors and moquette.  I can remember being surprised mach later by the vinyl.  Not much help with Mks and dates... sorry.
