PP205
Hi all, I have been looking for a photograph of a steam locomotive on the old GWR Taunton to Chard branch line, specifically on the 5 arch bridge over the River Tone just past Creech St Michael paper mill by Creech Junction. I have scoured the Internet for a photo at this location but have not been able to find one. I'm hoping someone may know of a book or magazine that has a photo of this location and can point me in the right direction, Many thanks Simon
RMweb Premium Andy Kirkham Posted August 4, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 4, 2016 I have looked in my copy of Railways in and around Taunton by M.J.Fox (Foxline Publishing) but I'm afraid the location you mention does not appear. But I'd recommend the book if you're generally interested in the area.
Rivercider
I believe the five arch bridge still stands. Today I am hoping to walk the Bridgwater Canal which passes nearby, I will try to tak some pictures, cheers

(I just did a Google image search on 'Creech St Michael', took less than a minute to pull these pictures off) Hope it helps!
BG John
Well, you didn't look very hard! I looked very hard, but couldn't see a steam loco on it, as requested by the OP
RMweb Gold Edwardian Posted November 2, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 2, 2016 I looked very hard, but couldn't see a steam loco on it, as requested by the OP Fair enough, though possibly I was fooled by the line "I'm hoping someone may know of a book or magazine that has a photo of this location and can point me in the right direction" As for "a photograph of a steam locomotive on the old GWR Taunton to Chard branch line", they don't seem to be that hard to find, either! Though, as the OP did not specify era, I'm favouring you. But why would you need a picture of a locomotive on the bridge? The public must be told! The 2-4-0 behind the Rover is, apparently, in the Chard Bay at Taunton on the Chard Branch train (to Chard!). I should think that counts.
Rivercider
I must admit that when planning my trip out today, and remembering this thread, I had understood the requirement as simply for a photo of the bridge, not the bridge with a loco on it, my mistake! The photos found by Edwardian are better than my efforts, though I note that the other photographer has similarly not been able to get all five arches in one shot as the one on the far bank, nearer the main line, is now amongst trees. Still I had a good day out anyway, and again managed to walk all 14.2 miles of the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal, there is quite a lot of industrial and military archaelogy to see along the way, cheers
