idris
Considering I can't justify a 3D printer of my own at the moment, any thoughts on good quality, well priced, 3D printing service providers? Shapeways, 3D Hub, or any of the numerous othe companies that come up in Google?
Marbelup
I have had (mostly) good results over the last 3.5 years from i.Materialise using their Prime Gray material. You didn't mention what scale you are working in - I mostly work in Sn3.5 and HO. Prime Gray is reasonably affordable in these scales. I have also done a few models in 2 mm, 3 mm, 4 mm, 1:43.5 and 7 mm scales. You can see some of my models by searching for Marbelup Models (blog and Facebook page). I also have access to a home printer (Makerbot Dual Head) but there is no comparison with the quality of Prime Gray. I use the Makerbot for prototypes to test fit bogie, couplers, etc.
