Richard Pike
Hi Can anyone point me in the direction of someone who provides a Templot design service, I am looking at building a 7mm layout and would like it designed in Templot. I have the basic dimension and track plan sketched out.
Derekstuart
Hello Richard, you will find many people that will be happy to help you with advice and guidance, though I'm not sure of anyone running it as a service as such. What are you trying to do? You will be surprised just how easy it is once you understand the basics. I will help if I can.
Richard Pike
Hi Derek, Thank you for your kind offer of assistance, basically I am just so short of time at the moment, I am looking at modelling Shirebrook depot as it was in the late 1970'. I have a basic track plan sketched out and scale measurements of all key locations of points etc. What I am looking for is someone I can pass my information over to and they deliver me a 10m long printed drawing of the scale track plan.....not asking for much
Derekstuart
I haven't got a large scale printer I'm afraid, but I can help with the track work. I'm not familiar with the location, but if you could post a sketch we can have a better look at it.
Richard Pike
Thank you Derek, give me a couple of days and I will details.
Talltim
Be careful, I'm pretty certain that the ToS for Templot precludes using it for gain, unless you have and agreement with Martin. Not sure how you stand if you are just doing it as a favour, or for the challenge of it.
gismorail
Have a look at Crispy bacon's 'Sandy' layout he used a guy who used templot for his layout

Not sure how you stand if you are just doing it as a favour, or for the challenge of it. Since I made use of Templot free of charge in 2011 there are no longer any restrictions on commercial use. However, I retain copyright on elements of the output, so you can't charge for the actual Templot-derived materials (files, prints, images, etc.), only for your time and skill in preparing them. See para 5 in the Templot terms of use at: http://templot.com/companion/terms_of_use.html regards, Martin.
Derekstuart
Blast. There goes my plan to make millions. Tim, I think that most people who have received a lot of help from the Templot community eventually try to help 'the next generation' of Templot users. It seems only cricket to do so. Certainly I had no intent to charge for helping. Since I made use of Templot free of charge in 2011 there are no longer any restrictions on commercial use. RMweb Premium martin_wynne Posted August 7, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 7, 2016 Can anyone point me in the direction of someone who provides a Templot design service Hi Richard, There are several Templot users who offer such a service. If you ask on the Templot Club forum you should find someone willing to help. Templot Club is at: http://85a.co.uk/forum/ One such designer who advertises on the web is Norman Saunders. See his web site at: http://www.just-tracks.co.uk/track-design-model-railway/ Please note that I have no connection or contact with Norman Saunders or any knowledge of his work. I am not endorsing his service by providing the above link, it is merely posted here for your convenience. Other design services are available, and may reply here. Please note that anyone providing Templot designs for you will need a very precise specification of what you require. You may actually find it quicker to learn and use Templot yourself rather than prepare a full design spec. for your railway in advance. In particular, you need to decide your track standards in advance. For example in 00 you need to decide between DOGA-Intermediate, DOGA-Fine, or 00-SF (4-SF) before starting on the Templot design. In 7mm you need to decide between 0-MF or GOG-F, or whatever. regards, Martin.
hayfield
Hello Richard, you will find many people that will be happy to help you with advice and guidance, though I'm not sure of anyone running it as a service as such. What are you trying to do? You will be surprised just how easy it is once you understand the basics. I will help if I can. I like a lot of others have received lots of assistance from fellow members of Templot Club, If you are time poor then the doing it your self option is perhaps not an option Whilst many do make complete plans within Templot, the other option is to design the turnouts/crossings or formations as individual units especially if you wish to use ready to lay plain track, marking the baseboard out in the age old fashion Having said all this, if someone provided you with a plan I think you can take it to one of the instant print shops on a memory stick (or is it a laptop?) for printing on a long roll of paper Like Derek happy to help (FOC)if I can, but in my case it will be limited to the odd tidying up of a plan/ odd template design etc
mightbe
not asking for much You would be surprised at how involved it can be trying to match a prototype exactly. Depending on standards and complexity, it could take a long time. On the other hand, if the layout is fairly basic and you don't feel the pressing urge to replicate everything with painstaking exactitude, you can probably do it yourself in a short time. In spite of some naysayers, Templot is fairly easy to get started with as long as you approach it in the right way. Conversely, approach it incorrectly and you'll soon find patches of hair missing. If you run into a brick wall, the Templot forum is happy to help. Quentin
hayfield
I would echo Quentin's advice, It takes seconds to produce a template of a turnout and a few more seconds to curve it if required. Simple formations are quite easy to obtain, some are automated (crossings, diamonds etc) or just adding a turnout or two. Things like 3 ways and slips do take time and a bit of skill. Some take to Templot like ducks to water, others do struggle. Do at least have a try first, you may find it easier than you think and plenty within Templot club willing to saaist
Richard Pike
Thanks to everyone who offered advice. I have contracted Stephen Freeman of Borg Rail, who has done a fantastic job for me, fully turn key within 48 hours and has even printed the plans for me. Now the fun starts......
