enginelane
Saw this morning a Northern Pacer unit coming back up the Monk Bretton branch towards Walton. Any ideas what it was doing as thought only trains on there are Sand trains to the glass factory

RMweb Gold ngtrains.com Posted August 16, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 16, 2016 Might have just made this up but have a vague memory that they use the branch for poor adhesion training spreading slime on the rail head and then trying to stop (or not)
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted August 16, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 16, 2016 Realtime trains show it as a pacer working from Neville Hill to Monk Bretton and return. Presumably either a test run or possibly a crew route refresher prior to a railtour. Jamie

enginelane
Barnsley Chronicle had an article on opening up the line again between Sheffield and Leeds -
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted August 16, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 16, 2016 Barnsley Chronicle had an article on opening up the line again between Sheffield and Leeds - It would make a good fast route but would require a lot of work, particularly in the Dearne valley near Wath where I believe there are a couple of call centres on the closed route. Also there's the cutting from Oakenshaw to Normanton, I'm not sure if some of it hasn't been filled in. However nothing is impossible given the right political will. Mark Saunders
I would suspect Skid Pan training as it looks like liquid delivery pipes on the rear bogie! Mark Saunders

RMweb Premium 31A Posted August 17, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 17, 2016 I believe it is a regular trip, in connection with training new drivers; at least it was before I retired two years ago anyway - presumably still is!
