RMweb Premium Blobrick Posted August 21, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 21, 2016 After looking through the AC Locomotives thread, I been looking for a am 10( class 310) E MU kit. I ve found the Southern Pride carries a hybrid plastic/etched kit. (No suitable 9 ft motor bogies available at the moment). Has any one had experience with theses kits ? Are these kits pre printed? They look like plastic sides ? Thanks Bob C
SRman
A friend had one of these kits partially constructed. It got stolen from an exhibition while he was loading his van.The body shells were basically resin with brass overlays for the sides. They were quite robust and looked good to me, but I cannot vouch for their accuracy (no experience with the kit or the prototype). They required complete painting and decoration by the modeller, unlike the more usual fare from Southern Pride which use plastic underframes and roof and clear plastic sides with colour printed (vinyl?) overlays. Derekstuart
Are the 310/312s from SP available again?I understood that the mould had some problems and were discontinued. I did email to ask but had no reply. Shame really as quite liked them.

Hi SRman Thanks for the info, it would have been easier if these kits had the pre printed side, but that's just my kind of luck. If Derek's post is the latest news on the AM10 think l ll be going for a AM4 instead, as they are described on the SP web site as being similar in construction, and tbh fit my time scale a bit better anyway Cheers Bob C
Derekstuart
Doddy, that's what the website says... Bob, that is what my understanding is of the availability. I might well be wrong- and hope I am. But until they reply to my email I cannot be certain. Please don't assume my observation is defacto as I wouldn't want to potentially lose them any sales if the above is wrong or has been resolved. PS I have seen some of their kits before and they are very good. Does anyone know if they ever attend any exhibitions?
Derekstuart
Thanks for repeating that post, Doddy. I'm not sure why you did, but thanks anyway. I see now that the website was updated around 4 weeks ago and the AM10s are still listed. Good. I will try emailing them again. Regrettably many websites for small suppliers do not reflect their up to date product range. One hopes that this is not the case with SPM. Excellent stuff they produce, though I'm not sure why they have a AM10 with original windows in RR livery as it should only be plain blue or blue/grey- those windows were long changed before sectorisation. Doddy, that's what the website says... SNIP From the Southern Pride website today . . . Kits shown on the 25kV Mk.2 EMU's webpage EM500 4-car Class 310 Original EM501 4-car Class 310 Rebuilt Windscreens EM502 4-car Class 312 AVAILABILITY INFORMATIONThe EM500 to EM502 kits are available to special order. On receipt of full payment, the bodyshells and brass sides will be ordered from the sub-contractors, this means a delay between receipt of order and despatch, but it also means that they continue to be available. The approximate delay is 4 to 5 weeks.

Hi Derek Don't worry the information you kindly provided caused me to have a think about which models l really need, and as l mentioned the AM4 is a better bet for an layout based north of Rugby. I think l would have come to the same choice eventually anyway Bob C
Derekstuart
I've just been reading a thread on the old RMW archive from someone who built AC EMU models, including SP stuff. There was mention of a 304- apparently it's a very easy and well thought out kit. If the 310/312 isn't available then I might have a go at a 304 myself. As my interest is in the NER area on diesel branches, neither is relevant to me but I did live for 20 years right next to the WCML and have a soft spot for these whining, smelly, noisy, bumpy- but still very likeable units. EDITED to replace very careless grammar. I must be reading too many low grade newspapers and picking up bad habits.
