Hi all,

Fast approaching this month is the 15th annual Lydney Model Railway show on the Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th September 2016, run by the Forest of Dean Model Railway club. This years show features over 20 layouts in scales N, TT, OO, ON30, O, and up to live steam garden railways and includes the star layout for this year 'Pempoul' by Gordon and Maggie Gravett, a 1:50 French Narrow gauge scene that is a beauty to behold! There will be trade support in the form of 6 traders, who between them can supply new model railways (Derails Models), baseboard and layout building services (Elite Baseboards), second hand model railways (Clive Reid and Rob Fowler), scenic items (Penduke Models) and tools and accessories (Amberly Services) .

The show is being held, as usual, at the Dean Academy (formerly Whitecross School), Church Road, Lydney, Gloucestershire, GL15 5DZ. We open 11am - 5pm on the 24th, and 10am - 4pm on the 25th, there is ample parking at the school and catering provided by The Baguette Stop of Coleford. There is also disabled access to all parts of the exhibition.

Prices are: Adults: £5.00, Concessions: £4.50, Children under 5: free, Children under 16: £2.00 and Family (2+2): £10.00.

For more information, view the club website here, or find the exhibition on the UK model shop directory. This years show is shaping up to be the best yet, so I hope to see at least a few of you there! Why not combine it with a trip on the local Dean Forest Railway who are also running steam trains on their 4 1/2 mile section of heritage line and make a complete day of it!

Can someone put on a ferry service across the Severn from Sharpness please, save on the long drive round.....

That would be a first for an exhibition if I'm correct, to put on a ferry as opposed to a bus, althougth there were recent feasibilty plans for a hovercraft service across from Lydney to Sharpness...no joke!

There used to be a perfectly good railway bridge... :( :jester:

And we (the DFR) are now building bridges with the Vale of Berkley Railway (not literally at the moment I may add) for a hope that sometime in the future, the unthinkable might just happen... :)

Not forgetting the Aust ferry. But nobody would want that back, or would they?

Brian.

By road, it is a flippin' long way round from Sharpness/Berkeley to Lydney, either up & through Gloucester, or down & over the M48 'old' Severn Bridge :(

... and clearly, there is still a need!! ;)

There is a group restoring the old Aust Ferry  'Severn Princess' which currently sits under the railway bridge in Chepstow, if I am correct? Can anyone elaborate? :)

Sure I read/saw something about it, too. Is that the one that had a turntable on deck, to help get more cars on it?

Indeed it is, I think there were two or three of them, Princess being the only one remaining. I remember reading something a year or so ago about the turntable going to Mabey bridge in Chepstow for some work...again not sure what ever happened to that.
